The anti- Trump, GOPe forces should just give up now, because they are digging their own graves, not Trump's by continuing to conspire against him.

They dug their own graves long ago.

Rove and Co. have been allowing obama to destroy America, thinking it will guarantee the RINO’s power for at least the next four years.

But they didn’t count on the real Sleeping Giant waking up. Sorry, Karl, you figured wrong.

In some cases, Trump is the ONLY one willing to stick by the republican platform!

This for instance.....
“ That is why we oppose any form of amnesty for those who intentionally violate the law. Granting amnesty only rewards and encourages more law breaking.”http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Republican_Party_Immigration.htm

“...there’s no remaining talk of snatching the nomination away from him with a contested, multi-ballot battle...”

Good. That bullcrap really needed to cease. The people have spoken. It’s the party’s job to listen to us, and to act accordingly.

The Republicans haven’t had an identifiable leader in so long, many of them don’t know how to act when a real boss finally shows up.

It appears quite clear that the single and ONLY goal of the anti-Trump forces is to stop Trump. Oh, the SAY that it is to put a “conservative” in place...but if someone like Mitt Romney or Jeb would be an acceptable alternative, then clearly the whole concept of “conservative” is just a talking point, nothing more.

So I’d like to ask these people what, exactly, they think will happen if they happen to succeed? I will answer that question:

1) They succeed in full by running a third party candidate, who wins the election against both Trump and Hillary; or

2) They partially succeed by running a third party candidate, who doesn’t win, but who does stop Trump by making sure that the Republican vote is split - leaving the White House to Clinton; or

3) They fail, with the third party candidate not getting enough votes (E.V.s, actually) to stop Trump, and Trump wins.

OK, let’s analyze these outcomes. The first is highly unlikely to come about. First, of course, no other Republican came that close to Trump in the primaries to begin with, so the odds of doing better now that many of his opponents have endorsed him for the nomination and the 2016 General Election are about nil. Further, even if the proposed third party candidate was extremely popular, he is unlikely to prevail over both the Republican and the Democrat. The closest that any third party (i.e. not Dem or Pubbie) candidate has come to winning the Presidency since 1853 was in 1912, when EXTREMELY popular ex-President Teddy Roosevelt ran against both then-President Taft (his hand-picked successor, who “strayed” from what TR wanted) and Wilson. The result? TR and Taft together would have smashed Wilson, but they largely split the vote and let in Wilson. We got the income tax, the Fed and the 17th Amendment during Wilson’s term, not to mention WW1 and the League of (some) Nations.

Outcome #2 is the most likely - see 1992.

Outcome #3 could happen - i.e. it doesn’t matter WHAT these people do, they lose and Trump wins.

OK, so let’s analyze how this turns out for the anti-Trumpers. Outcome #1 would be fantastic (for them), but is exceptionally unlikely. There would be no repercussions for them, though a large part of the Republican base would likely be thoroughly disgusted.

Outcome #2 basically destroys the Republican Party. I do not see how these people come out better off than with Trump as President, as the destruction down-ballot will make the Republican lobbyists, etc. be of little value. Further, they make Hillary the POTUS, with little doubt that the doors of immigration will be thrown open so as to completely destroy any hope of any Republican winning the White House in the future. Further, HRC will appoint 3-5 Supreme Court Justices, making the Court an arm of the Dem Party for the next generation (at least). I REALLY don’t think that they’ve thought this one through.

Outcome #3 leaves the anti-Trumpers in the worst possible position - they accomplished nothing, and now the POTUS has blood in his eye and a great opportunity to really put the screws to them.

There is, of course, a 4th option - to do what those who haven’t prevailed in the primaries have done in virtually every other election in our history, which is to swallow their pride and work with the winner to ensure that the party wins the General Election. That does 2 important things: first, it prevents HRC from becoming POTUS, with all that such would bring with it; second, they’d have a place at the table, some cabinet positions, lobbying and journalism jobs intact, and a party base that wouldn’t be completely and forever angry with them.

My recommendation is that the anti-Trump faction of the Republican Party choose Door #4, for all of the reasons stated above.

perhaps with fights over the platform or even his vice presidential pick.

Amazing... Lindsay Graham keeps saying that Obama is entitled to the Cabinet appointments that he wants, but our nominee is NOT entitled to his own Vice-President?

zPeople who can’t back Trump should run to the Bushes... They can get drunk with the prima donnas and cry in their beer together... the Republican version of the pity party.

Bolding mine... With Trump's last two rivals — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich — abandoning their campaigns...

As I understand it, neither Cruz nor Kasich abandoned their campaign. They suspended their campaign. Again, as I understand it, a suspended campaign is still very much alive and will continue thus until cancelled.

“...reshaping the party and its guiding principles,...”

WHAT “Guiding Principles”?

Rolling over and peeing on their bellies for Democrats?
Giving in to everything ridiculous demand from Democrats?

If those are their “guiding principles” - and they sure seem to be - they can go to Hell.
