Public Schools Top Ten List
Accuracy in Academia ^ | May 7, 2016 | Malcolm A. Kline

The National School Boards Association (NSBA) came up with a list of the top ten things that make public schools exceptional in 2016.

See if you can spot any of these in a government school near you:

• "Modernized career technical education (CTE)" (Do Instagram photos, tweets, facebook updates and the ability to Google oneself count?);

• "Data Systems" (For what, you might ask?);

• "High-Quality Pre-Kindergarten" (and how many students who are fortunate enough to receive it will remember it when they are post-Kindergarten?);

• "English Language Learners and Reading" (But do they?) ;

• "College-Going" (this may not be such a good idea if you are seeking employment when college is over);

• "Elementary and Secondary Education Act Reauthorization" (They should work this last word into a spelling bee to see what happens: Wouldn’t it be funny if only the homeschoolers could spell it? Come to think of it, that’s what usually happens!);

• "High School Course Taking" (Arguably this is a good thing, particularly if you are in high school.);

• "Math Achievement" (Many employers are still waiting for this Great Leap Forward.);

• "High School Graduation" (Something of a self-fulfilling prophecy: if you want to pass students, you will find a way, and many do.); and

• "Public Schools Are Still The School of First Choice" (this one is a real stretch, particularly in regions where local and state governments limit choices.)

The school boards tell us why today's public schools are exceptional. We answer.

education costs are OUT OF CONTROL vs. RESULTS OBTAINED
again teachers and teacher’s unions are ripping off the taxpayer by buying the POLITICIANS
ask yourself .... why pay 10-40000/year for 4+ years if there are no jobs or prospects...

WOULDN’T IT BE BETTER TO GET A TECHNICAL EDUCATION..?? AND AN IMMEDIATE INCOME...

college used to be for the idle rich
and ahve become the vehicle for anti capitalist communist indoctrination

college is for the stupid who take out huge loans ..... they will default on
and cause another financial crisis ..... thanks STUPID

Darn, I had hoped to see the ten best public schools list...I graduated from one that has long been on the list...wondered if it was still listed.

Is “Exceptional” a good thing or a bad thing? And since nearly all schools everywhere are public, what are the public schools “excepted” from? In other words, “exceptional” compared to what?

I think the intended meaning of “exceptional” here is “really good”, which is not what “exceptional” means.

There is no readier, more convenient source of empty sub-literate mumbo-jumbo verbiage than the education establishment talking about itself.

I’ve often wondered why it is, that schools seemed to provide a better education decades ago than they do now.

I’ve often wondered why it is, that nowadays, we spend more money, adjusted for inflation, on education than ever before. Yet we are getting inferior outcomes.

I’ve wondered about an older black man I saw on a TV program once, who said he got a better education in the Jim Crow South, than inner city kids get today in inner city schools.

And I wonder about the landmark study, “A Nation At Risk”, which was done in the early 1980s. The problems of our schools have been well known for decades, yet we seem not able to solve the problems of schools.

I wonder lots of things. Anyone else wonder about any of this, and what the solution is?

The short answer is for all who are able, to pull their kids out of public school. But what about the rest of the kids left behind?

Brighton High School, outside Rochester NY.

I think maybe one of the Pittsford Schools was listed too. It is the adjacent town.

And if you doubt it, go out there and talk with them, as I do. Most are grievously ignorant.

Why were schools better "back then" than now? For one thing, there were much stronger nuclear families "back then" than now. Parents respected teachers a lot more and if the teacher said that a kid was misbehaving, the parent backed the teacher up with discipline at home. Students were expected to work, not clown around. There was a lot less social promotion, and a lot less pressure on teachers to pass kids who did not deserve to pass. Politicians kept their big non-expert noses out of education, which is a big problem today.

Untested libtard programs today are being forced on schools by decidedly outsider politicians. Being PC is more important than being educated. Fringe groups are calling the shots today, whining that standardized tests are "unfair", "culturally inappropriate", and a whole bunch of baloney excuses. You live here, you learn OUR language. We should not have to cater to a dozen languages, hire expensive bilingual teachers and interpreters for people who refuse to assimilate. You want to live like you did in Your Country? Go the hell back there.
