NeverTrump Movement’s View of Trade Would Have Made Them #NeverReagan
Breitbart ^ | 6 May 2016 | Julia Hahn

Posted on 05/08/2016 8:13:55 AM PDT by detective

The members of the #NeverTrump movement cite, in part, Donald Trump’s position on trade as a reason why they cannot support their party’s presumptive nominee, chosen by Republican voters.

They argue that Trump’s position on trade represents a betrayal of the Ronald Reagan legacy that defines virtually all thinking and rhetoric among the professional conservative class in Washington, D.C.

However, there is one significant problem with this line of attack: namely, Reagan’s record on trade far more closely resembles Trump’s position than it resembles the view of those in the #NeverTrump movement. In fact, by their own definition, Reagan would have been a radical “protectionist”—meaning professional conservatives who are #NeverTrump would also have been for #NeverReagan.

This is an excellent article about the self described "principled conservatives" who declare they will not support Trump because of their so called principles.

It exposes them for the phonies and frauds that they are.

Hillary has been open about her anti 2nd Amendment stance. The #nevertrump people (the #imwithher people really) should just look at this one issue. Compare what Hillary has recently said her main priority is when and if she becomes president, as opposed to what Trump has said. This one issue alone should have all conservatives voting Trump.

Pontificating buffoons. Did anybody see Charlie Gasparino on Judge Jeanine last night defending his master Paul Singer?

Mark levin boughs need to learn more about this. oh I forgot he conveniently left this out. great article but I’m getting a little tired of Breitbart. Andrew Breitbart would call these never Trumpers the enemy. levin is the enemy now he is doing Hillary’s bidding

I’m not a NeverTrumpster; but Trump’s trade policy in this regard is not good, whether it resembles something Reagan did or not.

The #nevertrump fools are the faction of the Republican party that ran the party into the ground, they are cloistered enough to be shocked that outside of their bubble they are not even considered conservative.

Second amendment? Not a major concern of theirs. The #nevertrump are mostly concentrated in the group Norm Ornstein refers to as business conservatives in this talk: http://www.aei.org/events/aei-election-watch-delegates-drama-and-party-dynamics-in-2016/

I have my doubts that they are anywhere near one-third of the republican party.

I was a an stockbroker during Reagan’s time. Trump nor Reagan were Keynsians economically. More in line with Milton Friedman the monetarist.
_— so how is the current approach working for us?
Trump and Reagan approaches are very similar

We agree changes are due..

But, I don’t think it’s Japan’s fault that GM produces inferior products.

free trade and open borders are fundamentally the same concept.

In theory when it’s not abused its fine. But when other country uses it for hostile intent it’s ultimately destructive of a nation that allows it

there can be predatory free trade is like they can be predatory open borders

Free trade like open borders is a internationalist Libertarian position not a nationalist Conservative position

Free trade is fine if the country is not bleeding to death.

If your bleeding out you gotta stop the blood loss

The lifeblood of a country is capital and jobs

The #nevertrumpers are primarily the neo-con artists, and their open borders toadies. They don’t want to say that they are against him because he may not engage in their endless wars in the Middle East, and they want the country to continue to be invaded by hoards of 3rd World people to dilute and totally alter the character of the population, so they yammer about “trade” or his “tone” when the truth is something totally different.
