The members of the #NeverTrump movement cite, in part, Donald Trumps position on trade as a reason why they cannot support their partys presumptive nominee, chosen by Republican voters.
They argue that Trumps position on trade represents a betrayal of the Ronald Reagan legacy that defines virtually all thinking and rhetoric among the professional conservative class in Washington, D.C.
However, there is one significant problem with this line of attack: namely, Reagans record on trade far more closely resembles Trumps position than it resembles the view of those in the #NeverTrump movement. In fact, by their own definition, Reagan would have been a radical protectionistmeaning professional conservatives who are #NeverTrump would also have been for #NeverReagan.

It exposes them for the phonies and frauds that they are.
Yes, excellent article. Save for future reference to deal with hysterical never Trump types.
“Principled Conservatives” For Hillary
Brother, we hardly knew ye.
Pontificating buffoons. Did anybody see Charlie Gasparino on Judge Jeanine last night defending his master Paul Singer?
Mark levin boughs need to learn more about this. oh I forgot he conveniently left this out. great article but I’m getting a little tired of Breitbart. Andrew Breitbart would call these never Trumpers the enemy. levin is the enemy now he is doing Hillary’s bidding
Mark Levin conveniently picks and chooses what he says and is not honest.Who made this guy the standard bearer of conservatism? Himself!
I’m not a NeverTrumpster; but Trump’s trade policy in this regard is not good, whether it resembles something Reagan did or not.

The #nevertrump fools are the faction of the Republican party that ran the party into the ground, they are cloistered enough to be shocked that outside of their bubble they are not even considered conservative.
Second amendment? Not a major concern of theirs. The #nevertrump are mostly concentrated in the group Norm Ornstein refers to as business conservatives in this talk: http://www.aei.org/events/aei-election-watch-delegates-drama-and-party-dynamics-in-2016/
I have my doubts that they are anywhere near one-third of the republican party.
I was a an stockbroker during Reagan’s time. Trump nor Reagan were Keynsians economically. More in line with Milton Friedman the monetarist.
_— so how is the current approach working for us?
Trump and Reagan approaches are very similar
Ought to be sent to Cruz and Levin and Beck and all the other phonies out there
Wouldn’t matter, they are after all, phonies.
I guess Levin isn’t so great after all
Lots of folks claim to know what Reagan did apparently not many remember
We agree changes are due..
But, I don’t think it’s Japan’s fault that GM produces inferior products.
:)
free trade and open borders are fundamentally the same concept.
In theory when it’s not abused its fine. But when other country uses it for hostile intent it’s ultimately destructive of a nation that allows it
there can be predatory free trade is like they can be predatory open borders
Free trade like open borders is a internationalist Libertarian position not a nationalist Conservative position
Free trade is fine if the country is not bleeding to death.
If your bleeding out you gotta stop the blood loss
The lifeblood of a country is capital and jobs
Also #NEVERLINCOLN
The #nevertrumpers are primarily the neo-con artists, and their open borders toadies. They don’t want to say that they are against him because he may not engage in their endless wars in the Middle East, and they want the country to continue to be invaded by hoards of 3rd World people to dilute and totally alter the character of the population, so they yammer about “trade” or his “tone” when the truth is something totally different.
