Newt Gingrich has weighed in on the #NeverTrump movement and he has some harsh words for the Republicans that are turning their backs on the party.
He specifically addresses The Bushes, and Mitt Romney saying, Lets be clear. The Bushes, the Romneys, the Republican party has been pretty darn good to them. And they owe a little bit to that party. And the people who make up that party.
Gingrich told FOX News host Uma Pemmaraju that House Speaker Paul Ryans announcement that he is not ready to support Donald Trump probably represents a fairly large block of people who are very anxiety-ridden.
There were a lot of people who thought they would negotiate with Trump over the next two months as he tried to pull together enough delegates. And suddenly there on Wednesday, they were faced with the reality that he is the nominee, explained Gingrich.
And I think a number of them panicked.
Now, Trump has an obligation as the party nominee to find a way, a path to get to bringing the party back together, the former House Speaker added.
While Gingrich said Ryans refusal to endorse Trump wasnt something he would have done, he was much more offended by Presidents Bush and Gov. Romney.
The former presidents have publicly said they wont be endorsing Trump or commenting on the presidential campaign.
Romney says he will not be attending this summers Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be officially nominated.
When those three were the nominees, they expected all of us to support them, said Gingrich.
They would have been deeply offended if we had said something like Paul Ryan said yesterday. And I think its a bit much for people who got to be President or got to be the nominee because of the Republican Party to now turn around and decide that they are smarter than millions and millions of Republican voters, and that theyre not going to be part of the team.
Maybe Newt will make Trumps list of potential VPs.
He is incredibly smart and knows how to take care of business.
I would not worry about Trump’s age.
He has boundless energy.
Besides, Reagan was 69 when he took the oath of office for the first time.
Oh, I disagree with Newt. I am quite willing to credit the Bushes with making the Republican party what it is today - stated with the full force of the irony the Bushes deserve here, along with their fellow travelers and their second rate wanabees like Romney.
Could not agree more. When Newt is firing on all 12 cylinders, few are his equal and none are better. But far too often one of the carburetors is clogged or a cylinder misfires, and he just sputters incoherently. He just lacks a certain amount of judgment - in his striving to be brilliant all the time, he comes up way short far too often.
“He is incredibly smart and knows how to take care of business.”
That he is. He makes Ryan looks small by comparison.
Excellent!
Newt + NY 23 = smh

That link is to a very questionable video. Even the following commenters note the sketchiness of the video.
I’ll need more than that apparently altered video to believe Newt is as broken as you say he is.
Well, I sort of understand why they are sore. Trump represents a complete repudiation of their policies - open borders, neo-con wars, buddy-buddy with Saudi Arabia and “Islam is a religion of peace” sort of stuff...Who knows how Trump would affect their connections with Arabian gulf oil-producing countries.
Then, they don’t really relate to the kinds of people who like Trump. They don’t understand those people at all. Sort of like Marie Antoinette types.
For what its worth, the lack of Bush and Romneys endorsement could be a benefit to Trump....>>> Trump said he doesn’t want all of the republicans to endorse him. there are the few he don’t want. me too.

Whoever produced this video is being dishonest. Newt fan or not, to cut and paste parts of a video is intellectually dishonest. Watch the whole video on cspan’s website. It was “Book TV” April 29, 2008. We have to be better than the MSM people!
Here’s the same campaign event at another angle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3x-OvhIwig
The full footage is even worse because it shows the full context and he explicitly states he’s not kidding. These are from his 2012 campaign.

It would seem that those who say they would never support Trump are those who are to blame for the mess we are in right now.
See post 51. It’s worse in full context.
I watched the video you provided a link, and am trying to understand what Newt said that upsets you. If you are taking his hypothetical as a statement of fact you have a problem. He said “think about it”. He wasn’t even suggesting an actual tactic, but making an analogy.
Yes. We’ve all seen this a gazillion times. It’s old. Let it go.
No. Chief of Staff mentoring Trump.
Newt is 72 years old. Did you know that?
Too much travel for Newt as Sec State. Chief of Staff is the most beneficial position to Trump, and most logical, and best fit for Newt.
