LONDON Labour candidate Sadiq Khan has been elected Mayor of London, beating his Conservative opponent Zac Goldsmith.
Khan, 45, replaces flamboyant Conservative Boris Johnson after a race characterised by allegations of extremism and racism.
Goldsmith called Khan who is Muslim a "radical" and accused him of giving "platforms, oxygen and even cover" to Islamic extremists.
His allegations were echoed by prime minister David Cameron in the parliament, during Wednesdays' question time.
The son of a bus driver from Pakistan, Khan is a former human rights lawyer who branded himself "the British Muslim who takes the fight to the extremists."
Before the elections, he promised to be "a mayor for all Londoners," urging voters to "choose hope over fear."
A difficult campaign
Tony Travers, a local government expert at the London School of Economics, said the introduction of a directly elected London mayor 16 years ago had introduced "an American form of government" that differs from traditional British parliamentary and local government structures.
"Now intriguingly this time and we've seen a bit of it before it appears to have brought with it some of the harder American campaign tactics," he said ahead of the result.
A victory for Khan is a bright spot in what looks set to be a grim day for Labour, which has been out of office nationally since 2010.
Opposition parties usually gain seats in midterm elections as voters punish the sitting government. But Labour under left-wing leader Jeremy Corbyn is divided and beset by a controversy over allegations of anti-Semitism within its ranks. The claims gained new momentum when former London Mayor Ken Livingstone a Corbyn ally claimed that Adolf Hitler had supported Zionism before he came to power.
Livingstone, Labour lawmaker Naz Shah and several local party officials have been suspended over comments or social media posts about Israel, and Corbyn has faced renewed pressure over his links to pro-Palestinian groups.
About 2,700 local council seats are up for grabs, and Corbyn predicted last week that Labour wouldn't lose ground but later said that "predictions are not that important."
A poor showing would bolster discontented Labour lawmakers who believe the party is heading for a third straight general election defeat in 2020 if Corbyn a life-long socialist with strong support among the party's grass roots is not replaced.
Well, not that I don’t think Europe deserves what it gets by going belly-up over these Muslims, but...
America has Keith Ellison and Andre Carson duly elected to HER CONGRESS.
And then there’s Huma and all of the Muslim Brotherhood pukes scattered about in 0bama’s administration.
I don’t think we can get too uppity as we have a lot of Camel Noses under our own tent...
So true, I at one time wanted to go to the UK but not any more. It has been taken over and is lost forever.
See my reply, post #43! Might be a “long time being.”
GOODBYE Europe.
The camel is now completely INSIDE the tent.
London 2016 = Rome 476 = USA 2016 if Dems win
There is going to be a revolution in one of these European countries...I don’t know how long the people can put up with what is happening...I don’t know what kind of revolt, but there WILL be one...
Somehow I missed that one while skimming the thread. Right you are.
Was there back in 73. Had a great time. I was 13 though, so not that great of a time. Although Paris after London was fun. My very first hang over, well, I slept real well, and woke late, but was mostly just a little foggy the next day
Those crazy French. Would you like a drink with your appetizer Monsieur? Look at mom and dad, got a shrug. Blackberry juice and vodka came with the appetizer. When in France.
Wine for the main courses and Chombord with desert.
My greetings to him:Kuss em#q ibn sharmuta! Al jhadi al kalebna ibn khazir!

Londonistan the first major western Caliphate.
In the old days the enemy used to actucally have to work to take a place over. Now PC idiots just give it away.
This is world is going to hell in a handbasket.
I will never visit England as long as its like this.
Londoners and many in the UK or USA would see this simply as - “yeah, not a big deal, he’s just another political guy who seems smart, and because, like, we don’t care about his ethnicity, and we’re multi-culti, etc...”
While on the other hand there are many in the Muslim world who see this as - “Allah is proving to us that Muslims will conquer the most important cities of the infidel world.”
Don’t cancel your plans. My God, I went to London within a month after 9/11. You’ll be fine; don’t be hysterical. London is a great city, despite its problems, and to be in the royal enclosure is an unique experience.
Yes, they did ask for it.
However, perhaps it would be wise to start consistently praying over the Royal Family; especially the young couple with two precious children.
I hope people realize why I suggesting this.
That is why this Presidential election year is going to be very, very important.
