Paul Ryan Says He Cannot Support Donald Trump for Now
New York Times ^ | May 5, 2016 | JENNIFER STEINHAUER

Speaker Paul D. Ryan, the nation’s highest-ranking elected Republican, said Thursday he was “not ready” to endorse Donald J. Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

Mr. Ryan, who is also chairman of the Republican National Convention, has repeatedly said he would support his party’s nominee. But he has carved out some terrain to differentiate himself, by insisting that House Republicans write their own policy agenda this year and by giving speeches that at times criticized Mr. Trump’s views. Mr. Ryan said Republicans needed a “standard-bearer” who embodied the party’s standards.

“I don’t want to underplay what he accomplished,” Mr. Ryan said about Mr. Trump. But he added, “We hope that our nominee aspires to be Lincoln and Reaganesque,” someone who “appeals to a vast majority of Americans.”

“I think conservatives want to know does he share our values and our principles,” he said. “There’s a lot of questions conservatives are going to want answers to.”

His comments Thursday differed from other Republican lawmakers this week who have offered tempered support for Mr. Trump.

“I have committed to supporting the nominee chosen by Republican voters, and Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee, is now on the verge of clinching that nomination,” Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and the majority leader, said in a statement this week.

Many Republicans have been expecting Mr. Ryan to spend his time this summer and fall shoring up vulnerable House Republicans, particularly those running in districts where Mr. Trump is unpopular, rather than stumping for the nominee.

Mr. Ryan has at times taken direct shots at Mr. Trump. After Mr. Trump proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, Mr. Ryan strongly disagreed. “This is not conservatism,” Mr. Ryan said in December.

Another POS Rino pretending that the GOP is based on “conservative values”. In practice, the GOP hasn’t followed conservative values for decades - if ever.

Except for Reagan, not one of the GOP presidents since Eisenhower has been a conservative. Whenever the GOP has the majority in the House or Senate, they govern like progressives.

Ryan can take his ridiculous statements and shove them where the sun don’t shine.

We’re now seeing the biggest round of deal-making since the run-up to Obamacare. Gibs-me-dat Ryan wants to know what he can get for his Trump support.

I didn’t get the same read-out on the minimum wage as you. I remember the hanky panky of the interviewer.

Ryan’s omnibus budget showed us exactly what he is. Another Republican sell out treating the people as peasants while he lives richly on the bribes of wealthy donors. He is good and well bought. Anything he says is as useful as what he fills his toilet with every morning. To Hell with him and his kind.

Ryan was elected to his seat and was elected speaker by other elected Republicans. Trump is not the sole arbiter of what the Republican party stands for.

Ryan is an amnesty pimp and must be deposed from office. He represents no one but the corrupt politicians who put him in his position.

I got a different feel about this interview....he’s speaking for the conservatives who want to see Trump somehow represent their portion of the party in the weeks ahead in order to unify them to the party, he even offered to help.... And that’s because so many are refusing to support Trump as he’s spoken against their very principles and values which Ryan directly spoke to.

It isn’t about Ryan....it’s the message he’s giving for those who want to but can’t bring themselves yet to support Trump....Trumps got to say or do something to move them to get behind him....without them it will be a fail for Trump.

Yep too many globalists ready to sell out US sovereignty to make a fast buck at the expense of the country in his corner. I don’t think they teach business ethics in the schools.

Talk about divisive! Its just been 2 days!! He hasn't even given Trump a chance! I think he should have kept his mouth shut for a while and tried to speak with Trump and understand where he is coming from in some of the issues. I remember not so long ago voting for Ryan just because he was the Republican even though my heart was not really in it. I don't understand what is with our Government Officials making comments that a person may not be right for the Presidency or any other position. They are not the one that makes this decision we the voters are! Maybe Ryan is also part of the problem here!!

In other words, he won’t support Trump until Trump turns into the rino that Ryan wants to be the nominee.

How do I despise these arrogant bastards! I had vowed never to vote for another republican. Trump will be my last. It’s time for the party to cease to exist.

He can’t support Trump because they still plan to steal the nomination from him.

Ryan always acts the reluctant whore but enjoys screwing us.
