Donald Trump won't self-fund his general-election campaign, and will instead create a "world-class finance organization," the presumptive Republican nominee said in an interview on Wednesday.
For a campaign expected to cost more than $1 billion, "I'll be putting up money, but won't be completely self-funding, as I did during the primaries," Mr. Trump said. The New York businessman, who did receive some mostly small unsolicited donations, lent his campaign $36 million of the $47 million he spent through March.
That plan represents a shift for Mr. Trump, who has for months portrayed his Republican opponents as "puppets" for relying on super PACs and taking contributions from wealthy donors that he said came with strings attached.

He's not smarter than me because I knew he would never self-fund. He is paying himself back $36M of the $47M and raising money with big money guys just as every other politician does. So not smarter than me because I did not fall for it.
I read that The GOP already spent $75 million and ran 64,000 ads trying to take Trump down
Imagine how that money could have been spent for the good of the oarty membership - the voters
Cornfed Cowboy was not being antagonistic, but you had to make a dig at Cruz. Follow Trump’s lead and be gracious in victory.
Probably on Obamaphones.
The reality will be as always...a few swing states are where the money is spent.
That’s why Cruz was so problematic as a candidate, he was getting 17% in those states. Promising to use Cubanadian ju-jitsu to win them in November.
no. We donors are going to reimburse him - at an average 37 dollars a pop probably.
And, we don’t mind. Trump put his money where his mouth is, he put in the time and legwork to become our candidate. Now that he is our candidate, we reward his efforts and push him forward.
And take as much of the GOPe funding as we can squeeze out of them so we can trounce Hillary.
It’s also an advantage to campaign with donated money as it gives the donors a feeling on having a stake in the game.
By the standard set in the past six months, he’s now owned and compromised.
I didn’t buy that line before, and don’t now. Taking money is a vital part of the process, and there’s no way to avoid it. It also gets more people with skin in the game and invested in a victory. This is the right call.
How can one be beholden to millions of donors other than trying to enact the policies they broadly desire? When will you support Trump, ifinnegan? Ever?
I hope he takes every penny from the RNC he can get. The goal is to beat Hillary. And any congresscritter who stands with her and her globalistmanifesto thumping, gun-grabbing elites.
“He cant say he is not beholden to anyone anymore.”
He stated early he would probably only self-fund through the primaries and allow the RNC to fund the general campaign.
He will have enormous amounts at fund raisers for the RNC and all their subsidiary.
I am too. I will benefit from America being my country again and I will be just as proud to contribute in the general as I was in the primary.
Trump is not my father and does not owe me or anyone to Make America Great Again. Anyone with a problem with that should never again complain about the gimme dats in America!
What’s the matter with your head? Are you totally incapable of recognizing different circumstances? Trump is the top of the ticket but why should he pay out of his pocket for all the other Republicans who are running? Are you out of your tree?
You’re not so Brilliant as you think....or do you think?
Good thing.. $47 million to win the nomination, vs $210 million spent by opponents to lose. For less than a quarter of what his opponents spent, he won the nomination.
May I be the first in line to request that Trump lend the national campaign some money? Seems like a very, very good investment.
I don’t know how the $1 billion estimate came about. Maybe it’s accurate. Maybe not. Problem is, expectations have been repeatedly shattered this year.
It is not your damn money so why should you care? Stupid.
Clinton gets a big headstart.
Hillary: “Dangit! Now where did I put that $6 Billion of State Department money? It should be around here somewhere. Maybe it’s on the dining room table like those pesky Rose billing records.”
>Aside that,
>One of the things Trump and his supporters always said was he funded himself and was therefore his own man. He was not sold out or beholden to anybody.
That was his big selling point.
He cant say that now.
Yep and I’m disappointed, though it’s not unexpected. He probably took a look the 2 billion Hillery had amassed decided that it’s the only way.
