Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.
"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.
"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.
"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."
Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.
Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.
For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.
Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

Not unless and until the whole question of his birth-citizenship is cleared up, as the evidence increasingly points to Cruz hiding behind a pack of carefully-constructed lies. No Canadians on the SCOTUS!
I still support Cruz for president, but I can’t see him being approved by the senate for the supreme court.
AGREED...NO, not only NO but HELL NO!!!
And all this talk about Rubio being a V.P. the same!!!
Cruz blew the job interview for SCOTUS with his increasing bizarre and manipulative ( or whatever it is, I am not a shrink ) behavior. No freaking way he should be on the SCOTUS. He is so over it ain’t even funny. Used Cars or Lobbyist is his future.
How civil of you.
I suppose you are a truck?
We’ve already got a compromised, blackmailable justice. No need for another.
I think the Dixie Chicks are back.
He would not rule correctly on NBC.
Agreed. NO.
With his wife a member of CFR and Goldman Sachs..........HELL to the NO.
Nominating Cruz for SCOTUS would get him out of his squirrel. As for the job he just might be MORE effective in the Senate as a gadfly.
Stop talking about them.
;-)
I’m sure the think about it will lead to HELL NO!!!
I could. Here is why: The Senate would argue (internally) that since it is a lifetime appointment, we will be able to wash our hands of him.
The man would be a solid right vote, but he would not be able to influence others on the court to agree with him.
NO. Cruz is a weasel and a creep. He’s part of the Globalist cabal. He’d become liberal in a minute. Besides, he’s a prick. Everyone on the SCOTUS would hate him.
I was amused at the new formed group off of that... ‘Emily Robison and Martie Maguire of The Dixie Chicks are releasing new music under the moniker Court Yard Hounds. ‘
“Donald needs to stop talking about Cruz.
There is no need to speak his name.”
That’s rather hard to do when Trump is asked a specific quesion about Cruz, wouldn’t you say?
I still want him. On the court he will be a strong voice for the issues in which I believe. I don’t want him to have a mild temperament dealing with the far leftists on the court. I want him to go for the throat and eviscerate their arguments. Ted would be an outstanding justice.
..”You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion...
The second part of the criteria excludes Ted. RejecTED.
Have heard no news from the old band of hens and nothing about this new pair.
