Three marijuana growing operations have been discovered near the houses where a family of 8 was murdered “execution style” in rural Ohio.

While the drug trafficking has not been publicly singled out as a motive by authorities nor have they publicly mentioned cartels or organized crime, investigators have called the murders a “complex operation”.

“This was a pre-planned execution of eight individuals, it was a sophisticated operation,” said Ohio Attorney General Mike Devine in a televised interview aired by Fox News. “Those who carried it out did everything they could to hinder the investigation and their prosecution.”

weed is NEVER enough...crime does not stop nor decrease when pot is legalized...it increases...as does every societal problem....

nothing good comes from people living in a state of intoxication either from booze or drugs...

baloney....if 13,000 people would be “put to work” making child porn I guess that would be okay with you too...

That’s a strawman argument. There is no comparison or similarity between adults using marijuana and child porn. That’s just silly.

The issue is that prohibition DOES NOT STOP people from abusing drugs/booze. I can step out right now and buy any drug I want for a high price. Hell, you can even buy drugs in PRISON where everyone is cavity searched.

The only thing this policy does is create a black market and violent crime over the huge artificial profits. The crime is ALL due to the money involved from this black market. Eliminate the insane prices/profits and you’ll eliminate the crime. Why would an addict steal if they can get drugs for pennies? Why would dealers fight if there are no profits?

We already learned this lesson during alcohol prohibition. They couldn’t stop entire truckloads of booze and speakeasies re-opening on every block. Now we have drugs where a small brick made in a basement for pennies and hidden in someone’s shoe can get 100 people high for days. NO WAY can you put a dent in such a profitable easily-hidden market.

The reason is because this crime has no victim to report it and people are willing to spend more on drugs than gold. You can do some enforcement but it will barely scratch the iceberg due to how hidden the market is. There will ALWAYS be a drug supply as long as people have some privacy/freedom in this world.

After pointlessly spending over $1 Trillion and 40 years on the WOD, it is obvious there are only two real options to actually reduce drug use:

1) Eliminate freedom/privacy and monitor everyone 24/7 with cameras and mics

2) Create a legal drug market that undercuts criminals and uses the profits for education and addiction treatment. Rather than enriching cartels and turning non-violent people into sick animals (by sticking addicts in prisons and letting them use dirty street drugs)

“Making things 100% legal and open will minimize that corruption.”

Only if it is sold tax free. Pot tax, like cigs and booze is huge, and why crime will always be involved.

Why buy “legal” dope, when street corner dope is cheaper?

BS =>

Legal sales of recreational and medical cannabis products reached $996 million in Colorado during 2015. The state’s tax coffers rose by $135 million from taxes and fees on marijuana, and more than $35 million of that total is earmarked for school construction projects.

Illegal weed?

You can grow up to 99 plants in Colorado unpermitted

The only time it becomes illegal is to knowingly sell to a dealer taking it outta state

Colorado is a unique pot petri dish

It’s attracted freaks since the 60s and still does and has lots of transients which affects crime

Plus legal weed does indeed as you fear bring in losers to a degree more than it does in say Michigan or would in Iowa were it legal there

I think it’s too much work to have a fat profitable grow operation for your average violent criminal

They just wait and rob them like they would armourer cars or banks or just by stealth

But pot legalization in Colorado has made hippie spots more freaky than ever....which I personally don’t care for

That’s the problem with weed out west.....it attracts lazy hippies

That's $1,000,000,000 that didn't go to the black market and corrupt Drug Warriors on the take.

Pesky facts.

To some degree, attracting the dregs of society seems to be a side effect of any booming industry. There was this FR thread about the oil boom in ND, for example => Dark side of ND's oil boom: Meth, heroin, cartels _ all part of growing drug trade

And then there's Dreg Central, aka Washington DC:)
