We know that simply locking people up doesn’t make communities safer.

Might help if there weren’t so many criminals getting caught.

If the animals ran the zoo, they would get rid of the cages.

Obama: Our criminal justice system imprisons too many black criminals

That's his real complaint.

And as a whole, our prison population is disproportionately black and Latino.

Maybe because most criminals are Black and Latino.

The problem with our criminal justice system is we have too many criminals left alive. If we executed felons like our forefathers did then the crime rate would be a fraction of what it is today.

There are two very simple questions to ask:

1) In a properly working society: should criminals fear society or should society fear the criminals?

2) Which is the better place to house criminals: in prison or in neighborhoods?

Can there be even the slightest doubt that he meant criminals “of color”?

Common sense say too many blacks and latinos in jail, they have some serious problems in their cultural communities.

Libtard sees same thing and concludes the laws - many of the laws they actually demanded and modified over the years - must be racist.

"Almost 60 percent have mental health problems."

And are rightly locked-up to protect society.

That's WHY we lock people away to protect society. This is much more merciful than in ancient times, when they simply terminated the persistently dangerous.

Funny how the Left never mentions that crime has been falling the past two decades we’ve been sending criminals to jail for committing crimes.

this is more of that disparate impact crap. that needs to be shut down in the courts and politics or we will keep getting more and more of this nonsense.

There is a disproportionate number of people in jail who do not follow the law. I guess we should let them out too.

Build bigger prisons and a chop chop square and a hangin tree, that will stop criminals and thin the herd.

The damage this sick b@$t@rd has done. Crime rates rising nationwide as he & his anarchist cronies have suppressed law enforcement agencies and emptied prisons. Sixteen percent jump in property crimes, 11% jump in violent crimes in my small community, 2015 vs. 2014. It’s gonna get much worse if that defender of Black Panther torturers and child rapists makes it back to the WH. Lord, hear our prayer: Forbid it, we beseech Thee.

Once again he sees a legitimate problem and misdiagnoses the cause and solutions. We do in fact have way too many people locked up at great expense to society. The cause is overwhelmingly our foolish “war on drugs.” The solution is decriminalization of what is essentially private consensual behavior and treating drug addiction as a health issue instead of an offense under the criminal code.

Obama, being a statist who would probably like to expand our prohibitionist regime to include tobacco products, is incapable of grasping this.
