On Capitol Hill, Representative Chris Van Hollen is, literally and figuratively, a Democratic fair-haired boy. An American son of diplomats born while his parents served in Pakistan, he has used his fund-raising savvy, policy smarts and easy manner to position himself, party elders assumed, as a potential Democratic speaker of the House.
Instead, Mr. Van Hollen, now running for the Senate in his home state of Maryland, is fighting for his survival in an identity politics primary that raises an explosive question: Should a white man, or a black woman, inherit the seat held for 30 years by Barbara A. Mikulski, the longest-serving female senator in American history?
(Excerpt) Read more at nytimes.com ...
Both are Representatives from corrupt, gerrymandered Matyland. Donna Edwards was once my Representative in a weird gerrymandered district. The mailings she sent out were embarrassingly stupid leftist tripe. Van Hollen was elected only because a gerrymandered district was created for him.
I hope they both lose.
I thought this was going to be another one of those “identity” threads of how one self-identifies.
I’m still scratching my head about how Hogan was elected governor of my home state of md
I thought this was about a white woman wanting to a be a black guy, hey why not maybe I should put down on a job application next time what I will be for the diversity racial quota’s
No one liked Jerry Brown.
Anythony Brown. Sorry.
Should a white man, or a black woman, inherit the seat held for 30 years by Barbara A. Mikulski, the longest-serving female senator in American history?
Anyone else take exception to this wording?? Who the hell is saying that someone “inherits” a Senate seat??? Someone will be elected, but nobody is set to “inherit” a Senate seat.
Or is this just careless leftist tripe, and the left views an election process as an inheritance????
And I still fat fingered it.
No inherit is correct. Maryland specifically along the 95 corridor is completely liberal and where a bulk of the population resides in the state.
Reminds me of when Scott Brown was running and the media asked him how he was taking over Kennedy’s seat only for Brown to reply “It is the people seat not Kennedy’s”
It’s how the left perceives elections now.
Gender politics at its best
“Anyone else take exception to this wording?? Who the hell is saying that someone inherits a Senate seat???”
Maryland is the most corrupt state in the union.
Politicians inherit political office.
Politicians confiscate public funds.
People get fed up and elected Governor Hogan who is an honest man and a good governor.
But most of the politicians here are the scum of the earth.
” ... the left views an election process as an inheritance????”
After awhile, it becomes a race/sex entitlement.
“Should a white man, or a black woman, inherit the seat held for 30 years by Barbara A. Mikulski”
Choices, choices. I love it when the identity politics ruse comes back to bite the Dims. Is it too late to dump both of them for a cisgendered Hispanic?
Does anyone have proof that Barbara is a woman?
Race, race, race, race, race, race, race, race 24/7 in obama’s Fundamentally Transformed America.
White man or black woman?
I thought they were talking about the late Michael Jackson! Oh, wait; that was black man to white woman.
There shouldn’t be any room for male Crackers in congress from the south. Maryland was a slave state, so the deep south rules should apply. Next thing you know, they’ll want someone other than a Jew or a Catholic on the Supreme Court.
Yes! I take exception to the word “inherits” BIG TIME! These a-holes are operating like it’s a Monarchy and most of America agrees. Most don’t see the word “inherits” as a bad thing. They accept it because they don’t know their ass from their elbow about our system of government.
“Does anyone have proof that Barbara is a woman.”

I don’t but at least I know that Barbara has, fortunately, NOT reproduced.
