Donald J. Trump said Thursday that transgender people should be allowed to use whatever bathroom they feel most comfortable with — including at Trump Tower in New York.
Dipping into a contentious issue by taking a stand many Republicans oppose, Mr. Trump told a town-hall-style event, hosted by NBC’s “Today” show at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, that when people go to the restroom, they should “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate.”
Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, was responding to a question about a bill that North Carolina’s governor signed into law last month that bars individuals in the state from using public bathrooms that don’t correspond to their biological sex — the one listed on their birth certificate. Since then, there has been a backlash from businesses and celebrities opposed to the state’s action. And transgender issues have pitted social conservatives against business interests that traditionally have been part of the Republican coalition in the South and elsewhere.
“North Carolina did something — it was very strong — and they’re paying a big price,” Mr. Trump said. “And there’s a lot of problems. And I heard — one of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday saying, leave it the way it is, right now.”
He added that before the law passed, there had been “very few problems” but now North Carolina is experiencing an exodus of businesses and “strife” from people on both sides of the issue.
“You leave it the way it is,” he said. “There have been very few complaints the way it is.”
North Carolina’s law, which also removed anti-discrimination protections for L.G.B.T. people, and the backlash to it, is now at the heart of the state’s hotly contested governor’s race.

Last year around this time I said of all the pubby candidates, “the Republican party has an embarrassment of riches”. A year later I’m saying, “Once again the pubby party has proven itself an embarrassment.”
If he didn't, and presuming he didn't bring his camera, then the worst thing that happened was some creepy guy slightly dressed up like a woman came and used the bathroom.
Should not be a surprise to the Trumpsters, after-all they bought into the TransRepublican lock, stock & barrel.
It is one of the problems of speaking off the cuff, and hes definitely had a few bad off the cuff moments. I would count this as one of them.
I dislike Cruz a lot. I was a solid Trump fan. But this is an issue.
I guess its easier when your little grand daughters live a life where they will never use a public restroom in a park, or at a beach, and likely have security. But for us rubes, it can be different.
I doubt Trump has any concept of multiple stalls in a bathroom. Of course that is the only sane solution, no multiple user bathrooms period.

I support Trump because we have to win on TPP and the immi issue. This is a depressing day for Trump supporters who are conservative. He is no doubt thinking strategically here to gather up a few discontented Democrats and bolster his appeal. This is sadly what it may take to win the general. He must however stand firm on sovereignty issues.
Rationally, though, your daughters would always be under threat, whether it's bull-dykes, or people who intend to break the law by raping your daughter not caring about a law that would keep them out of the bathroom.
You really shouldn't be leaving your kids unattended in the first place.

It isn’t absurd. You are at Disneyland or the beach. You are carrying a camera, or a modern smartphone in the hand. Shutters can be set to silent. You walk into the restroom. Happens all the time. I was for Trump, but he is dead wrong here.

Let’s see your reasoning — there are risks of predators everywhere, therefore it’s OK to to ADD to the risk since the risk already exists ... and all these because Trump says it’s OK and he can never be wrong...
You take that risk leaving your son unattended in the men's restroom with other men. In what rational way has the threat-status of bathrooms gone up in the past few years, and in what rational way does the threat status go down once you have the government passing laws about bathrooms?

Folks are worried about who gets into a bathroom when we have a real problem with who is getting into our Country? If a woman walks into a Mens room what’s the most that will happen? If a tranny who is really a male walks into a mens bathroom what’s the most that will happen? If a real man walks into a woman bathroom what will happen (the police will be called or the publicity will make people rethink this idiotic idea)? If Tranny walks into a woman Bathroom what will happen? Probably share makeup and horrible boyfriend stories! If a Dike walks into a womans bathroom, well hell that’s where she belongs. This is peanuts compared to our self-inflicted muzzie importation and open borders where who the hell knows who is coming in and how many of US will die!
But what is the logic supporting the idea that the risk is ADDED if we permit something that has been permitted for decades anyway? And why would a rapist disguised as a woman be deterred by a law when he plans to violate 3 or 4 other laws once he gets past the door?
Democrats are all about social issues. This is going to turn into 2008 all over again, this time with Trump agreeing with Hillary on this.
