Chicago Blackhawks’ forward Andrew Shaw has been suspended for one game after using a homophobic slur twice during Tuesday night’s playoff loss against the St. Louis Blues.
The league announced the suspension Wednesday along with a $5,000 fine for "directing an inappropriate gesture at the on-ice officials" during the game.
Shaw will also be required to undergo sensitivity training, according to the NHL.
The suspension means Shaw will miss Game 5 of the team's series against the Blues, where they are facing elimination.

Cross state rival here...Flyers fan...but I have no use for dirty play either.
Bellemare has about 55 total penalty minutes in 155 regular season games, not what one would call a dirty player.
Fluky play, he got penalized...on to the next game.
It has spread from NFL to the NBA to the NHL I see. I guess playing “Smear the Queer” is out of the question now....
Letang is not a dirty player either. During the playoffs emotions are running high and ugly things happen.

BTW, what do people in Philly think about fans throwing their Ed Snider memorial bracelets onto the ice the other night? The guy gave them their team, apparently did a lot for the community, and had just succumbed to a long battle with cancer. To all the rest of us this summed-up the worst stereotypes of Philly Fans.
Limbaugh keeps talking about the end of football. I think that will soon expand to all professional sports. When you are suspended for what you SAY during a game, the end is near.

Flyers were down 4-1 with about 8 minutes left, Bellemare is known to hustle and it happened...there’s always still a chance in hockey. Only takes a millisecond for a goal to be scored.

Yeah, as a player I was involved in some extreme (and, at times, hilarious) trash-talking with opponents on the basketball court. But everyone knew not to direct it at the refs.
Some fans threw the bracelets, the team and many other fans were pi$$ed because of the delay of game penalty and the image it sent as a result.
