BTW, what do people in Philly think about fans throwing their Ed Snider memorial bracelets onto the ice the other night? The guy gave them their team, apparently did a lot for the community, and had just succumbed to a long battle with cancer. To all the rest of us this summed-up the worst stereotypes of Philly Fans.
Some fans threw the bracelets, the team and many other fans were pi$$ed because of the delay of game penalty and the image it sent as a result.
I’m not exactly sure, as I live in Florida, but for the time I was stationed there at the shipyard, I didn’t think my opinion of the Philly fans could get any lower; it did with that display. At least in Boston and Chicago, although just as rabid as fans, their rivalries with other teams are storied and not typically boorish or mean. Philly fans are, though knowledgeable, just simply arseholes.
my soninlaw, a lifelong Flyer fan, was pretty embarrassed and appalled by it, said there was no excuse. though I have read the comments to articles on the behavior, and there are still scumbag philly apologists who are acting like there weren’t THAT many bracelets on the ice, and accusing Caps fans of having thrown them yada yada. so it really depends on the philly fan.
