I heard this earlier on the news and it never even occurred to me that it was racist.
The term has been so over used that I no longer know what a true racist is
I admit, I have a very stunted 'racial dog-whistle' antennae. I was shocked, some years ago (Jena High School), to find out that hanging a noose up had a racial connotation. Having grown up in the Southwest, I always took nooses as something associated with cattle rustlers, or other scurvy dogs. I even joked at work about hanging up nooses for people who did a bad job (or some other faux offense). I had no idea that nooses were reserved for racial messages.
Likewise I find watermelon and fried chicken (but no hot sauce please) to be special treats...
One needs an ever expanding list of words not to say.
Racoons are definitely a nuisance. Racoons fighting in the back yard make the most horrific shrieking noises that can be imagined.
The racism is from the knee-jerk left. They immediately think of specific minorities when something negative is mentioned.

You’ve been on vacation for two weeks, you come home, and your basement is infested with raccoons. Hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons have overtaken your basement. You want them gone immediately… You call the city, 4 different exterminators but nobody could handle the job…
But there is this one guy and he guarantees you to get rid of them, so you hire him. You don’t care if the guy smells, you don’t care if the guy swears, you don’t care if he’s an alcoholic, you don’t care how many times he’s been married, you don’t care if he voted for Obama, you don’t care if he has plumber’s crack...you simply want those raccoons gone! You want your problem fixed! He’s the guy. He’s the best. Period
Here’s why we want Trump, yes he’s an egomaniac, but we don’t care. The country is a mess because politicians lie, the Republican Party is two-faced & gutless, and illegals are everywhere. We want it all fixed!
We don’t care that Trump is crude, we don’t care that he insults people, we don’t care that he had been friendly with Hillary, we don’t care that he has changed positions, we don’t care that he’s been married 3 times, we don’t care that he fights with Megan Kelly and Rosie O’Donnell, we don’t care that he doesn’t know the name of some Muslin terrorist.
This country is weak, bankrupt, our enemies are making fun of us, we are being invaded by illegal’s, we are becoming a nation of victims where every Tom, Ricardo and Hasid is a special group with special rights to a point where we don’t even recognize the country we were born and raised in;
“AND WE JUST WANT IT FIXED” and Trump is the only guy who seems to understand what the people want.
We’re sick of politicians, sick of the Democratic Party, Republican Party, and sick of illegals. We just want this thing fixed.
Trump may not be a saint, but doesn’t have lobbyist money holding him, he doesn’t have political correctness restraining him, all you know is that he has been very successful, a good negotiator, he has built a lot of things, and he’s also not a politician, he’s not a cowardly politician. And he says he’ll fix it. And we believe him because he is too much of an egotist to be proven wrong or looked at and called a liar.
Also we don’t care if the guy has bad hair.
We just want those raccoons gone.

I have lent my ‘havahart ‘ trap to coworkers with raccoons in the attic. A common NY problem.

My High School coach had a name of W. Coon.
Little did we realize that whenever we ‘talked’ to him we were being racist.
Guess it tripled itself as he had all 3 sports the school offered. 6 man football, basketball and baseball.
Plus he did Drivers Ed and Gym.
Turned out quite a few 3 letter men, some for 4 years.
The coaches favorite expression was ‘intestinal fortitude’.
The Marines taught him a lot of ‘big words’ and in our little corner of NY when you mentioned Coon, you were referring to Our Coach.
Didn’t have very many Black families in our District and I had forgotten that one of the Athletes was Black.
Some ‘accused’ me of being Racist because I ‘forgot’ the Black Guy.
My answer/explanation is/was, I forgot him because his presence, was neither outstanding or mediocre. Just one of the Guys - Of course he was 2 years behind me so he fell in the category of ALL Freshmen to the Juniors and Seniors....
