To the surprise of nobody but leftists, Governor Brown and the California State Legislature Democrats, jobs are beginning to evaporate visibly in the wake of California legislating a phased-in $15 an hour minimum wage. Even the Los Angeles Times can’t help but notice:
Last week American Apparel, the biggest clothing maker in Los Angeles, said it might outsource the making of some garments to another manufacturer in the U.S., and wiped out about 500 local jobs.
American Apparel is far from the only firm affected, of course:
Felix Seo has been making clothes for wholesale in downtown for 30 years. His company, Joompy, used to count giant retailers like Forever 21 among its clients. But as prices have gone up in recent years, he said, those fast-fashion peddlers are no longer giving him orders.
"I used to pay $5 to get this sewn, and now it costs $6.50," Seo said, holding up a patterned dress. "But my customer doesn't want to pay that, so I can't sell it anymore."
To survive, Seo, 59, said Joompy may have to start importing goods instead of producing them locally. "It will be impossible to make clothes in Los Angeles," he said.
Unions, of course, are not surprised by this. They see opportunities for a shakedown of employers, and besides, there are so many of their members covered by contracts pegged to X dollars above the mono mum wage, that the fate of lowe income workers is really of no consideration. Put them on the dole, and make them fodder for big government programs and Democrat voters.

The left wants these jobs to leave the country, they want people unemployed
We did this thread yesterday.
What will be worthy of "It Begins" will be the angry, condescending comments by various California public officials to the effect that the exodus has nothing whatsoever to do with the rise in the minimum wage rate.
Of course, it's unlikely that any California public official will be asked for such a comment, or that anyone in California will even make the connection between the actions of their public officials and the consequences of those actions. At least, not anyone who is willing to speak publicly.
California, once one of the most beautiful places in the nation and a cultural leader and trend-setter, has basically committed suicide.
Nobody defeated California in a war, but it’s cities are going to be third-world pits with no jobs and politicians who stand on the balconies and offer cash handouts, a la Argentina.
Why?
Why do I get the feeling the “solution” to this will be the power to tax businesses if they don’t have a certain number of employees or wish to move?
the main reason for increasing the minimum wage is to increase the payroll taxes to the government(s)...it would be interesting to find out just how much more tax a person pays with a $10 wage and then a $15 wage....it is an indirect tax on the employer...
Then there is also the cost of insuring your employees too.
Too bad liberals are incapable of attaining a minimum IQ. Without a minimum IQ, liberals are absolutely unable to understand the truth regarding minimum wage.
Well, there is clearly only one solution.
MAKE EVERYONE IN THE NATION OFFER A 15$ AN HOUR WAGE!!!
Then when the jobs go overseas, MAKE EVERY FOREIGN NATION OFFER A 15$ AN HOUR WAGE!!!
Then, when the jobs are robotized, MAKE EVERYONE PAY THE ROBOTS 15$ AN HOUR!!
And those Soros-paid picketers won’t have that company to harass any more, so more secondary effects as well.
the liberals understand the mechanics.....force the price up to collect more sales taxes, force the wages up to collect more income taxes
The dems obviously want manufacturing and jobs to leave the country so as to devastate this once-great country.
If they had even a minimum IQ they would no longer be 'liberals'.
I guess 50 cents an hour would be a boon for the owners. Many would rather that.
California still is a beautiful place to see. But,
physical climate and and political climate are not the
same thing. California is a prime example of the idea
that if you do not actively fight for conservatism then liberalism will fight
until it gets a choke hold. If any
entity or organization has a political
aspect to it then it is a target for
liberal control. Examples include AARP
and The League of Women Voters.
California has long had a history of
attracting and accepting free thinkers.
Liberals don’t like free, independent
thinkers unless they are also liberal.
Those of us who have lived in beautiful
rural areas have welcomed city people
and others to share the place we have
called home for generations. They thank
us by changing everything our area is
about. On a statewide level the same
thing happened to California.
Well, while your comment about CA committing suicide is spot on, you need to take a look around before you make the blanket statement about our cities. Los Angeles is not going to fare well, but San Francisco, is booming with no end in sight. The building going on there for very expensive housing is frenetic. Our daughter works for one of the largest commercial contractors in SF, and they are overloaded with work. Furthermore, a lot of areas that were lost to the trash minorities have been reclaimed and now are home to the newest batch of Silicon Valley professionals who commute to and from their jobs in Prevost buses with breakfast served on the way down, and cocktails on the way back. California needs to cut off that goiter known as Los Angeles, but not SF.
#11 Soros only pays $10 an hour with no benefits!
and increase the Union dues which is based on hourly wages
