Goodbye, Illinois: residents are leaving for other states
Chicago Trib ^ | 4/16/16

Even on days when the temperature is above zero, Illinois struggles to keep people here. They're leaving, in droves, for states with sunnier economic opportunities.

New census data and other figures reveal the cold hard truth: More people are moving away than coming, tipping Illinois last year into the dreadful category of states with declining populations. From July 2013 to July 2014, Illinois shrank by about 10,000 residents in all, joining other states in decline such as West Virginia, Connecticut and Alaska.

When demographer William Frey of the Brookings Institution analyzed the annual Census Bureau estimates, two facts jumped out at him. First, Florida overtook New York to become the third-most-populous state (after California and Texas). And second, Illinois is badly leaking people.

"The faucet is starting to turn up in terms of moving to the Sun Belt," Frey tells us. "Obviously states in the Northeast and Midwest, like Illinois, are going to be part of that surge." But still: "I was quite surprised by the Illinois out-migration and that there is negative growth."

I was born and raised in Illinois. The problem is many of them voted for the aholes who cause the misery and bring it to other states. Like bedbugs.

The a##hat and his friends have caused an exodus far larger than the Jews out of Egypt, now this is one of his accomplishments

And they’re bringing their liberalism with them, to fowl up the nest just like they did to Illinois.

And you can also bet that most of the 10,000 leaving are NOT welfare leeches and criminals - the kind of people you WANT to leave the state.

Instead, they’re hard-working taxpayers, business owners, and entrepreneurs - the kind of people that HELP an economy get robust.

So the good people are leaving and the bad ones stay behind - way to go, Illinois. Idiocy in action.

Based on my personal experience, a large percentage of people leaving liberal states these days are conservatives who are no longer willing to put up with the leftist BS.

Except for Muslims. Illinois now has the highest per capita Islamic population in the country. Wouldn't surprise me if it's a contributing factor in the exodus.

Stereotype much?

I didn’t see any such statistic presented...

All the people I know who have left Illinois were either Conservative or Moderate republicans....

There was an article recently which said that the black population of Chicago had declined about 10% just since the 2010 census.

And that many of those blacks were leaving Illinois, not leaving Chicago for suburban areas, but leaving Illinois altogether.

But these are also the most productive group of black residents leaving. Which sad to say, means that there is a greater concentration in the remaining black community of the gang bangers and other assorted anti-social types.

It could be worse, the people leaving the state could be made up for by illegals, like in California.

Eh here is more current info...

Maryland, New York, and Georgia

http://islamicommentary.org/2014/09/american-muslims-by-state-highest-percentages-in-maryland-and-new-york/

compiled by JULIE POUCHER HARBIN via AMERICAN VALUES ATLAS (2013 DATA), SEPTEMBER 26, 2014:

Check out this new online atlas — The American Values Atlas — launched this year by the Public Religion Research Institute in partnership with Social Science Research Solutions (SSRS). You can go to this site and plug in the names of various religious affiliations and denominations and discover the percentage of that group state by state.

I plugged in “Muslim” and found that 1% of Americans identify as Muslim. The states with the highest number of Muslims are Maryland and New York at 3% of the population in each state. In Georgia, the state with the next highest percentage — 2% of the population is Muslim. States where Muslims are 1% of the population include Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. All the rest of the states were at less than .5%.

Here’s the official description of this new tool:

The American Values Atlas (AVA) is a powerful new tool for understanding the complex demographic, religious, and cultural changes occurring in the United States today. Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) recognized the need for a more complete portrait of America’s shifting attitudes, identities, and values, and launched the AVA in 2014 in partnership with Social Science Research Solutions (SSRS). The AVA’s interactive mapping system allows users to explore the differences and similarities between America’s diverse religious, political, and demographic communities. Beginning in 2015, the AVA will expand to include specific issue modules, covering topics such as immigration, abortion, LGBT issues, and others.
