FYI

Interesting fodder for us local taxpayers. When will my fellow Dummycrats wake up? It seems only Republicans complain about taxes. My Dummycrat friends don't seem to mind the increases. : (

My aunt & uncle in Parsippany, NJ (near NY city) were paying $9,600 a year in property tax in 2003. I bet it is much higher now.
They had originally paid $43,000 for their single story home in 1959.
They are renters to the gov’t.

One of those units of government is the Naperville Township Road District, where seven employees maintain less than 20 miles of road at a cost of $116,000 per mile. City officials have said they could maintain the same distance at half the cost, and have moved to take over the road district’s duties on behalf of local taxpayers.

Wonder how I can find out where those 20 miles of road are...This is outrageous!!!

[Well....move.]

Selling a home for a decent sum is next to nil in Illinois.

My dad was able to freeze his property taxes, senior freeze program, thank goodness.

But we just got hit with new $38 a month garbage collection fee on the water bill, because he froze the property taxes he’s supposed to get 50% off that, but no one told the jerks that sent the bill.

The state is going bankrupt, public employee pensions that the state constitution says you can’t cut, are killing us.

Teachers union corruption at its best. In no time flat they'll be unable to meet their payout obligations because of laundering money for the democratic machine. Then the Illinois democrats will raise taxes on property owners once again to cover te shortfall. The residents of Chicago, who control the rest of the state won't care because they are all net income takers rather than contributors.

The cycle never ends until everyone productive leaves the state and abandons the unions to the welfare scum.

There are a lot of states with influx from the northeast or from California that had better enact something similar, otherwise property taxes will go through the roof eventually in these states, too, mine being one of them. It’s going to be a little tougher to pull off here, though, since residential property tax is levied at the county level rather than the state.

“It’s going to be a little tougher to pull off here, though, since residential property tax is levied at the county level rather than the state.”

All California Property Taxes are county levies, so I don’t know exactly what you perceive the difficulty to be? The problem here back before Prop 13 was that the “state equalization” funding for schools was withdrawn as local properties increased in value. We saw our property taxes on our first home go from about $500 per year to $2,000 in three years, as the county would reassess one year, see the state take away their money, necessitating a rate increase the next year to make up the loss. Now though, the RATs are trying to sever business property from Prop 13.
The real answer is to remove school funding from property taxation, and get the money from an income-based levy. Property taxes should only be levied to pay for property-related governmental expenses.

Good for your dad. My property taxes are lower now than they were in 1992 when we moved in here and we have made lots of improvements. (central Illinois). We are not all Chicagoans.

If only they took all the money they spent on defense and spent it on the poor.

Oh, wait, that old chestnut is only for the federal.

Hmm, it’s a mystery I tells ya.
