Republicans are a lot closer to 'maybe Trump' than 'never Trump'
The Washington Post ^ | April 14, 2016 | Philip Bump

Posted on 04/14/2016 2:54:52 PM PDT by Reeses

The goal of the nebulous, sort-of-a-thing "never Trump" campaign is to do whatever is possible to stand between Donald Trump and the 1,237 delegates he needs in order to claim the Republican party's nomination on the first ballot at the convention. The informal effort has resulted in a lot more anti-Trump ads, and has benefited from the businessman's own natural inability to organize on-the-ground efforts in critical states. But the overarching idea, that the Republican base would slowly turn against Trump, doesn't seem to be paying off. In fact, a new CBS News poll suggests that Republicans are pretty comfortable with the idea of Trump as the nominee -- or, at least, they are compared to the other two candidates.

All of the attacks against Trump have only made me more willing to support him.

Yep, and there's a reason why. It's the Information Age. We don't have to rely on the MSM to dole out the information they feel we should have. We don't have to wait to see who our politicians will endorse.

We have libraries of voting histories and PAC filings. We can see for ourselves who is lying to us. We can see ulterior motives behind who's funding who.

It's the crack-up of the old power structures. They don't know how to react to our newfound power. Meanwhile, we appear to have adjusted just fine.

I’ve heard him say twice now there are people who want to support him and who will be a surprise. Intriguing!

He should cut a deal with the RNC, you knock off the anti-Trump stuff and I’ll raise my own GE money so you can focus on holdling onto the Senate. Just look at how much they’d “save” i.e. have to squander on other stupid stuff.

Absolutely.

TRUMP is now charged with walking into that convention with his 1237 delegates, and with a nation of Republican votes behind him who EARNED him those delegates.

Cruz needs to go back to his role as Uncle Munster and retire soon, on his pay off for serving as the mule to the Washington Cartel.

Surely, it was worth something to the Cartel to have a nerd willing to agree to take such a low road to no where.

That’s brilliant, really.

You remind me of Patton. He said of the German what’s his name, “I read your damn BOOK!”

You must have read TRUMP’s damn book! :)

That’s how Trump gets supporters, from people who haven’t actually examined his record going back before he launched his primary campaign. Almost every one of his positions is a flip-flop from his previous more liberal positions. Including deportation.

A positive Paradigm shift for us and a possible Fatal Black Swan event for the insiders of the GOPe and their PR pundits , hacks and tv faces.

I like Trump because of who doesn't like him. Before this election, I never gave Trump much thought. I've never followed any news or programs he was involved with. I'd never read any of his books. I do appreciate and admire many of the people who came out and endorsed him such as Sarah Palin. I trust their judgement. All I know about him now is from my own research and listening to his stump speeches. I'm not tainted by previous biased opinions of him as many here seem to be.

Exactly my position too. Never a Trump follower before the election, I just take notice of who is against him.

Every position he took as a private citizen? I don’t care what his statements were at any given time because his opinions didn’t mean anything because he wasn’t acting on them I care about what he says as a man running for office now. One thing I’ve learned about Trump is that he when he says he’ll do something, he means it. He’ll build the wall. Cruz won’t. He’ll stop the influx of illegal aliens. Cruz won’t. Trump will stop muslims from invading America. Cruz will encourage more to come here. He’ll cut taxes more than Cruz. He’ll take a tough stance with our trading partners. Cruz won’t. Trump is a doer. Cruz isn’t. Trump is a leader. Again Cruz isn’t. Trump will demand our allies pay for our protection. Cruz won’t. What will Cruz do? The same damn thing every GOP establishment president does, grow government to unsustainable levels while making big problems even bigger. Sorry, you are the one who is incredibly naive, not me.

“How Donald Trump wins: “Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.””

That’s apropos. I think the quote comes from Hemingway with regard to how someone becomes bankrupt.
