Captain obvious here again, but NeverTrump/NeverCruz is not the way. We all have our favorites, but don't lose sight of the mission.
The mission on FR is to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY!!
It's a lot bigger than you or me or our personal opinions or egos. It's about the very survival of our nation and the promise of freedom for future generations.
Reagan said that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction and he was 100% correct.
President Clinton or President Sanders means the end of freedom in America.
Do not let freedom expire on our watch!!
Free Republic will support our Republican nominee whoever he is against the godless Marxist/socialist Democrats in November!!
“Do you have a reference that 1237 delegates have been required since the GOP began? I havent been able to Google that.”
It’s more than half. Always has been. (1237 is half plus one this time).
If Cruz is the nominee I’ll support him to the hilt. But I see no path for him to win the nomination by vote or by convention.
But I interpret Jim’s comments as if Cruz’s goal is to force a contested convention it will get him and us us nothing but an establishment nominee like Kasich or Ryan or Jeb, and not Cruz. Cruz *might* get VP out of it.
No?
I disagree. If Cruz is nominated at the Convention it is as honorable as can be. If a nominee can’t get 50% of the delegates, a rethink is in order. If this had been a 2 man race from the beginning, Cruz would have already sewn this up. 37% should not be able to choose the nominee for the rest of us.
Advocacy and personal attacks are effectively the same until nominee is decided.
That is my interpretation and experience over the last four weeks.
Youll support someone who becomes the nominee dishonorably? Because in #31 you say Cruz cannot get there honorably.
Is it better to stay home or vote the Beast !
Then your first clause is a nothing burger. Seriously, it is meaningless. A political statement with no value.
Color me disappointed.
It won’t happen. If it goes to the convention it’ll be a win for the GOPe and a loss for America.
I can’t see voting for a man who believes he is an anointed king to bring in the end times. You can’t undo the damage of someone like that.
I won’t stay home. I’ll go to the poll and vote for every other race that has no choice other than a Progressive or GOPe candidate. I will not vote for Trump. If it’s Trump or a Dim, I will leave those boxes empty.
My first clause is a no-brainer and is impossible to misinterpret. I will support our Republican nominee over the godless Marxist Democrat no matter what.
Talk about disappointment.
I agree with you, publana. If becoming the nominee in a contested convention is dishonorable, then there are several Republican Presidents who are dishonorable.
The key difference here is Cruz will not win at the convention. The GOP establishment hates him as much as they hate Trump. They’re using him to get one of their own installed at the convention.
You understand what I said. You understand that claiming to support someone you believe will not be the nominee is a nothing statement, especially when not misinterpreted.
You are proving my point about your statement.
.
I understand and do sympathize with you, but even if liar/schemer extraordinaire Don Trump somehow steals this election, there is no way I allow Hitlery/Bernie to benefit from it.
Perhaps its Cruz’ rapidly rising strength that allows me to say that, since it looks like Trump is solidly out of luck now.
“anointed king to bring in the end times”
This won’t help him in a general either. I can see David Brock getting this out there somehow. Imagine the question...”So Senator Cruz, have you ever had premarital sexual relations with that woman?
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/04/ted-cruz-dildo-ban-sex-devices-texas
” It rejected the argument from Cruz’s team that the government had a legitimate role to play in “discouraging prurient interests in autonomous sex and the pursuit of sexual gratification unrelated to procreation.”
And this just in:
The Establishment Hasn’t Given Up the Dream of Denying Trump and Cruz

Cruz will win.
The Establishment doesn’t have to like him, he is their meal ticket in this election. He proved that in Wisconsin, in a big way.
