The Daily 202: Ted Cruz’s war with Matt Drudge could become a huge problem for his campaign
WaPo ^ | 12 Apr 2016 | James Hohmann

Posted on 04/12/2016 8:08:52 AM PDT by mandaladon

The Drudge Report has aggressively portrayed Ted Cruz’s sweep of all the delegates from Colorado’s Republican convention as a corrupt power grab.

The site named for Matt Drudge, who broke the story of Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky and still runs it, links to nine stories this morning with salacious headlines about the convention. Among them: “Savage: Cruz should disavow rigged Colorado election … Buchanan: Apparatchiks thieve delegates for Ted … 1 MILLION REPUBLICANS SIDELINED … Border Patrol Agents: Colorado Voters Disenfranchised.” Keep in mind that this is three days after the Colorado convention.

Our analytics partners at Zignal Labs say the Drudge attacks are breaking through on social media in a significant way. This word cloud, which tracks all Cruz mentions since Saturday, shows the extent to which Drudge has shaped the conversation about Cruz’s win in Colorado. Note the prominence of the words “cheating” and “drudge”:

This kind of squabbling will only get louder as the delegate wrestling and wrangling intensifies. And it has clearly gotten under Cruz’s skin.

In a radio interview yesterday, the Texas senator ripped into Drudge as an arm of Donald Trump’s campaign. “In about the past month, the Drudge Report has basically become the attack site for the Trump campaign,” he told conservative host Mike Slater. “So every day they have the latest Trump attack. They’re directed at me. … Most days they have a six-month-old article that is some attack on me, and it’s whatever the Trump campaign is pushing that day will be the banner headline on Drudge.”

“By the way, they no longer cover news,” Cruz added of Drudge. “When we win a state, suddenly the state doesn’t matter. You know Colorado — there was no red siren on Drudge when we won all 34 delegates in Colorado.”

Cruz didn't start any contretemps with the Trudge Report. Trudge did. Cruz is just pointing it out. The average voter can figure this out pretty easily; the low-information voter, not so much.

You seem to be underestimating Trump and what he has brought to the table. His supporters are the most enthusiastic and loyal. The GOP is a dying party, but Trump's entrance into the race is the main reason turnout records are being set. Debate viewership is also setting huge records. Trump has set the agenda for the campaign to include subjects like immigration, trade, the treatment of vets, etc. These are subjects that never would have been raised, certainly not in the way they are now.

Cruz has changed his positions on immigration and trade to draft off of Trump's resonance with the voters, especially those earning $30,000 a year or less. Without Trump in the race, Cruz would have been destroyed a long time ago. He could never have withstood the challenges of Rubio and Bush.

If Trump fails to gain the nomination despite winning more states, delegates, and votes by far, the GOP will be dead in the General.

Revelation 22
6 Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place.
7 “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
8 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
9 Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
10 And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.
11 “He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him ebe righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

Well, you are wrong and here is why.
Ted Cruz is TEA Party pedigree with a Conservative Review Liberty Score of 97% who successfully defended the 2nd Amendment, the Christian Cross and The Ten Commandments before the US Supreme Court—single handily temporarily shut down the government to stop Obamacare—scuttled the Gang of Eight amnesty bill, (Ted was fighting illegal immigration when Trump was still banging cocktail waitresses in Vegas) and called the GOP-e liars in the senate liars on the senate floor.
Cruz ain’t perfect, 97% ain’t but at least, like Reagan was, he is a consistent conservative not an opportunistic neo RINO.
But enough about Ted, what has Trump actually DONE to help restore America to the constitutional republic the Founders created. Lotsa TALK but where dah beef?
Take your time.

Sparky, you have a problem.

There are multiple reports from all kinds of sources about the video. There was even discussion from those allied with the Cruz camp claiming that the video doesn't prove an affair, just that they came and went from the same hotel multiple times. Tell that to Mrs. Cruz, although she is probably beyond caring. The Amanda tweets were so weird. It will come out, if he gets far enough and the GOPe decide to bring him down, or the Democrats do. If the information is not needed it will be saved for an important vote. TPP perhaps.

I'm not hoping or praying, I am an observer of information that is not deluded into wishing it away.

Na...Jeb

but that raises an interesting point

at what point do you invalidate Cruz...before or after the election?

and does it invalidates just Cruz and his VP becomes the candidate and or the elect President if the Republican ticket won?

or does it validate the whole Republican ticket and Hillary wins by default?

both GOP and Democratic strategists have to be wargaming this in the figure out what’s the most effective time legally to run this play for their sides best advantage

I really wish we had some kind of intelligence-gathering to see what’s going inside DC think tanks on this .....

Evidence of just such legal wargaming and research on this subject could be some powerful evidence to maybe wake up some of these Cruz supporters

You are wrong and here are the facts:

single handily temporarily shut down the government to stop Obamacare—

Obamacare is alive and well. The Omnibus budget bill fully funded it. Cruz had absolutely no impact on Obamacare despite his grandstanding. Green eggs and ham...

cuttled the Gang of Eight amnesty bill,

This is the biggest load of crap ever put forth. First, the Gang of 8 bill passed the Senate 68-32 with 14 Reps voting for it. The measure was never voted upon in the House. Want to know why?

Jeff Sessions led the way by producing a briefing paper that outlined the defects in the Gang of 8 bill and he distributed to all Reps in the House. Sessions also conducted briefings on the bill with House members. Cruz participated in some of the briefings. But his participation was not critical.

But what really killed the bill in the House was the defeat of Cantor in the primary by Dave Brat. How do I know all this? I have been working on the immigration issue for over nine years as a member of a grassroots organization that lobbies on the Hill. I also helped Dave Brat beat Cantor. We made robocalls to 40,000 Reps in Cantor's district alerting the voters to Cantor's plans to pass a Rep version of the Dream Act. Jeff Sessions said that Cantor's defeat is what stopped the Gang of 8 bill.

Cruz has changed his positions on immigration significantly since this campaign began. He was for amnesty, i.e., allowing the lawbreakers to stay and work here. He just didn't agree with a path to citizenship. No deportation. Cruz Tries to Claim the Middle Ground on Immigration. Cruz did nothing about the victims of criminal alien crime or sanctuary cities. Trump is the one who made these issues in the campaign.

And Cruz is a globalist who supports more foreign workers into the US to take American jobs and depress wages. He favored increasing H-1B visas by 500%. His infamous Cruz amendment #5 is sickening. See for yourself as he cites a bogus study to justify these massive increases. All of us involved in the immigration issue were disgusted by it.

There is a reason Jeff Sessions, Phyllis Schlafly, and Kris Kobach have endorsed Trump. They know Cruz and his flip flops on immigration. Cruz will not build the wall nor will he reduce legal immigration. He will support more foreign workers and bad trade agreements. Cruz will say anything to get the nomination.

Cruz has a long history with the Bushes. Neil Bush is part of his campaign team. Lindsey Gray, a member of the Gang of 8, endorsed him. Cruz gets major contributions from Goldman-Sachs, Club for Growth, and a billionaire hedge fund sugar daddy.

Cruz is an insider pretending to be an outsider. He is a fraud.
