Bruce Springsteen Cancels North Carolina Concert Over LGBT Legislation

"You can't start a fire. You can't start a fire without a spark!"

Bruce Springsteen fans in Greensboro, North Carolina, won't be dancing in the dark anytime soon, because The Boss canceled an upcoming concert. And you can blame the governor and state lawmakers.

Springsteen moved the concert in protest of the state's so-called "bathroom" law, which, among other things, forces transgender people to use the restroom associated with the gender on their birth certificates, not their gender identity.

Springsteen released a statement saying, "Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters."

The Boss is right: More than 80 business leaders, including Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Apple CEO Tim Cook, signed a letter calling for a repeal of the law.

And PayPal canceled plans to open an operations center in Charlotte because of the bill, taking 400 new jobs with it. The CEO released a statement saying the "new law perpetuates discrimination and it violates the values and principles that are at the core of PayPal's mission and culture."

Fans who bought tickets for Springsteen's show will get a refund.

Posturing and playing to the PC crowd. I can't for a second believe that he would supported this if his daughter was still in school.

I like Springsteen but I put him in proper perspective. He is the same as any pop or country star. He puts together clever lyrics with catchy music. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't look to them for anything more but escapism. They have no greater insight on the world than you do.

Springsteen’s early stuff was brilliant. But today he just sucks the root.

Indeed. I was just speculating on the reason for the cover.

Mark my words, "that", is going to kill itself sometime probably in the next couple of years.

Suicide among "trans-genders" is over 50%. They truly are mentally ill people.

What would you recommend as “brilliant” by him?

Just about all a musician’s catalog (even those thus loosely-defined) gets posted on Youtube. I tried listening to Springsteen’s earlier albums, but couldn’t get through a song or two; and I have a low opinion of the typical radio fare of his, with all due respect.

I never understood his appeal in the first place, but if he wants to join the ranks of the other celebrity idiots trying to become relevant again by advocating for the rights of mentally disordered, 250 pound men who think they are women, and equally mentally disturbed men who just get turned on by women, or little girls, going to the bathroom, to BE in the bathroom with women or little girls, I hope everyone takes note.

I don't think he played Sun City, either.

Come to think of it, iirc, he didn't let Muzak use his tunes.

And his people went after karoke singers, too.

No accounting for taste. Sorry to be so pedestrian, but I like Thunder Road and Born to Run. The country could use something like a young Bruce Springsteen or a young Bob Seger right about now.

OK. I think the only reason for the cover was because it has the word “Jersey” in the title. (BTW I am also a Tom Waits fan)

It might be time to invest in Depends as it seems that one might as well pee in the safety of the public forum rather then the seclusion of neutral use bathroom where anyone can go without suspicion of ill intent which negates the safety of the private privy.

The state can pass reciprocity laws than prohibit the state from purchasing from companies that in any way boycott, are harm the welfare of the state.

These would prohibit use of PayPal for any state business or payment to PayPal from State controlled funds. These could prohibit flights on Delta or purchase or concessions of products such as Pepsi or Coke or....... Such laws would stop travel to conventions in cities prohibiting travel to NC (San Francisco), doing business with any entity headquartered in cities prohibiting travel to NC unless the entity has operations in NC. Hit them where it hurts......

It means PayPal has something in mind besides making a profit and staying in business.

Isn’t it Chris Christie who is Springsteen’s biggest fan? Apparently Chris has embarrassed himself over this more than once.

His. Music. Sucks.

Well, his band is great...except for him. He couldn't sing to save his life, and he's a typical Joisey union-thug dirtbag.
