Ted Cruz and Donald Trump have plans to campaign in Colorado this weekend, but its possible one of them could technically win the states delegate count even before the GOP state convention here on April 9.
-snip-
The state convention gets all the press, says Daniel Cole, the director of the El Paso County Republican Party. But the congressional assemblies, taken as a whole, are more important.
-snip-
So far it appears Ted Cruz is making a harder play for the delegates than Trump or Kasich.
-snip-
Already, Cruz has shown a keen interest in Colorados potential delegates, and has even endorsed some. Thats paid off so far, as the Texas senator scored a big win here over the weekend when he ran the table at the first congressional assembly, held in the Denver area. The first six Republicans who won coveted delegate slots for Cleveland are pledged delegates for Cruz.
-snip-
As for Trump, the billionaire businessman has made plans to be in Colorado this week, but whether hell show up to the state convention in Colorado Springs is so far up in the air. If Cruz wins enough delegates during the congressional assemblies before Saturday, Trumps time might be better spent elsewhere.
-snip-
The Colorado Independent reached out to a handful of delegate hopefuls who are pledged to Trump to see if there was any kind of organized effort among them like there has been for Cruz. The first, an El Paso County Trump supporter, said he likely wasnt the best to talk to, saying, I dont know that much about the process. Another, a lifelong Democrat from Ohio who says she switched parties after moving here last year to support Trump, said she wasnt even sure if she was still in the running to become a delegate.

Let me hereby apologize for my candidate being smarter and better prepared than the other one. I don’t include mailman’s son here because he’s a goof and not really in the race.

Yes, Cruz is good at winning where no one votes.

It’s hard to get delegates to last beyond the first ballot if you don’t vet and provide the people yourself. The future belongs to those who show up for it.

And what does that have to do with the fact that the only intention of Kasich and Cruz is to stop Trump from winning the nomination outright even if they can’t win themselves?

How come the people of North Dakota don’t get to vote? Only the party elites of North Dakota get a say. Perhaps in 2020 the GOPe will set up the nomination process this way. No more primaries or caucuses. Instead, “state conventions” where only the party elites of each State and territory will have a say.

Yes, Ted Cruz certainly doesn't believe in the principles of representative republicanism when it comes to getting elected. I think he might have gone far in 1930s Germany or 1920s Russia.

Oh, please, stop crying. I think if anyone would have gone far in 1930s Germany or 1920s Russia, it’s Donald Trump. Because your boy is too lazy to learn the rules for some delegate selection processes, is it Cruz’s fault.
Do you want to complain about Wisconsin, too?

Another 2016? How many of you are there? Nice “Nazi” allusion without actually saying “Hitler” or “Nazi” in your post.

The same as it was in 2012 when folks like me scrambled to support whomever could stop Romney to avoid a certain disaster in 2012. Gingrich, Santorum, Paul had no chance of stopping him, but collectively (until about Wisconsin) they might have been able to if there were better funding for Gingrich and Santorum early on.
What you are describing is not "winning the nomination outright" but winning on the first ballot, two different things. Cruz will have enough delegates at the convention to make a serious challenge, once non-binding, released and uncommitted candidates are in.
Even if you are a Trump supporter, Cruz' presence keeps the GOP-E from running one of their own as the only anti-Trump option. Should the people of California be given NO OPPORTUNITY to vote for someone other than Trump?
Whatever the reason that Trump, Cruz and Kasich are running, it is up to those three to persuade people to trust their vote with themselves. Trump has not yet closed the deal. He might well do it soon as NY and the other northeastern states are friendly terrain. He also needs to build up more discipline in his campaign so he doesn't have two more weeks like his last two weeks; he can only do taht if he continues to be challenged.

You either believe in Representative Republicanism and the will of the people or you don't.

Once the numbers show that it is impossible for Cruz to win the nomination and he is fall behind Trump, he needs to drop out.
Just like he advised Kasich to do.
I am describing winning outright, not going to the convention and winning at the convention.
Cruz has sold his soul to the GOPe and will do their bidding.

For most of the history of these conventions (outside of incumbents), multiple ballots were common. We are NOT far from the place where it will be difficult for Trump to get 1,237. He rarely places above 50% inprimaries OR caucuses, even with only three candidates left.

Trump is going to get the number.
So, if Kasich is given the nomination at the convention (he has no chance of getting the number) will you support him?
You do realize that the Kasich is only staying in to stop Trump, just like Cruz.

When you have multiple candidates it is hard for anyone to get over 50%!
Cruz didn't get over 50% in his own State, nor did Kasich, if I remember correctly.
