Not so fast, everybody. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, Wisconsin will not be the end of Donald Trump. It will not even be the beginning of the end. But it might be the end of the beginning.
To be sure, Trump had a terrible, horrible, atrocious week. But imagine the worst-case scenario for him: He wins none of Wisconsins 42 convention delegates in Tuesdays primary, while his nearest rival, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), wins them all.
Even with that improbable result, Trump would have a huge lead over Cruz in the delegate race, 736 to 505. A Wisconsin shutout would make it more difficult for Trump to reach the magic number of 1,237 an absolute majority, sealing the Republican nomination. But it would remain nearly impossible for Cruz to get there.

So long as Trump is the nemesis of the establishment, he will always have a place next to Davy Crockett.
Trump: All the right enemies.
Cruz: All the wrong friends.
????
I thought he already won??
No??
Must be fruad and cheating.
You have that reversed (hint: Hillary Clinton).
This is a clear example of how the media keeps people agitated by printing this kind of article. Does anyone on planet Earth believe Trump would be finished if he didn’t win Wisconsin?
Why hasn’t Clinton been prosecuted?
Because the spineless feckless flaccid GOP will never allow it.
I did not realize it was standard practice to count front runners out. /snarcasm
Only Cruzers and the anti-Trump fanatics think that WI is a “must win” for him. It’s actually a “must win” for Cruz, because if he loses WI any hope of getting anywhere near 1237 would be finished. If Trump keeps within single digits of Cruz he’ll pick up some of the delegates. Considering that Trump has been carpet bombed for 2 weeks with millions of dollars of negative ads, all the radio talk shows have been bashing him for months, WI is also the home of Ryan, and Pribus, and the Walker machine is cranked up for Cruz. Anyone else subjected to such an onslaught would have conceded the state, and would be in single digits. But, Trump has been waging a tough campaign there, and hasn’t given up. A couple of new polls show him actually ahead, but we’ll have to wait and see.
If Trump does win, it may very well be because of the establishment over-reach, they’ve been all over TV boasting about how they can change whatever rules they want, and openly discussing that someone who isn’t even running could be the nominee. People don’t like blatant corruption being rubbed in our faces, and they might just strike back by voting for Trump.
The Trump Rebellion will continue. And it is a rebellion and I’m for it. I may not agree with Trump on a lot of things but this country is running on fumes and the political parties have a hammerlock on our rights.
100% right on
The media, in this case, the Washington Post, thinks that they can play this game of stirring up the populace and pitting it against itself, endlessly without consequence.
I think they are tragically mistaken.
If Cruz should win the Wisconsin primary tomorrow, it will be the first state he has won east of the Mississippi.
Cruz has so lost the Eastern part of our nation so far, that he has only won one state East of North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas Eastern border lines.
He won Iowa, which was the only state on the Western banks of the Mississippi that he won.
Remember all those Bible Belt states where Cruz was going to mop up. He was right. Trump moped the floor with him in every one of those states.
Cruz was already sworn in.
Exactly, and worth repeating.
CGato
I fear they are right this time. Trump is done.
Cruz also has no chance at getting the nomination and less of a chance
in the general.
Cruz and Kasich will go down as the A-holes who handed this election to
the hildabeast. Both of them can jump off a bridge for all I care.
Trump: All the right enemies.
Cruz: All the wrong friends.
Can I use this pearl of wisdom?
Saw the name Eugene Robinson and didn’t read any more.
