The GOP’s (other) convention nightmare [Gay Marriage]
Politico ^ | April 4, 2016 | Alex Isenstadt

Republicans, already girding for their most tumultuous convention in decades, now have another fight brewing: a divisive battle over gay marriage on the party’s official national platform.

It’s an issue that drives intense passion, and one that splits the mainstream and evangelical wings of the GOP. With the convention less than four months away, both sides are mobilizing in anticipation of a bitter clash over whether the party should embrace a more moderate approach to gay nuptials, in keeping with a public that is more open to it, or maintain the hard line the party’s base demands.

. . . it’s just a matter of time until we see churches getting sued over marriage.

Sadly, yes. Our idiot governor just today issued a news release in opposition to the very mild new North Carolina law which simply protects religious institutions from being sewered by the LGBT crowd for refusing to provide wedding services.

Indulging their mental illness now trumps first amendment right's in Gov. Wolfe's opinion.

Solution is simple. Platform should support civil unions, but oppose same sex marriage.

What they’ve got to do is protect the private sphere...that is, say it will not be forced on people who do not like it or agree with it.

The whole “gay marriage” thing is so bizarre that it seems unreal. But unfortunately, it’s real, and the Obama administration has been shoving it down everybody’s throats and prosecuting/persecuting those who don’t go along with it.

I think it’s too late to put the genie back in the box and get rid of the whole idea. But what there needs to be is the acknowledgement that it’s not traditionally accepted and is state-imposed, accompanied by protection for people who don’t go along with this.

There’s already a liberal sodomite political party. We don’t need another.

What? Tomato/tomatoe. Giving it a different name won't change anything. The only reason the government recognized marriage is because the union of a man and a woman produces children -- the future of the human race. Both people with normal desires and those who grow to prefer perversity come from the same origins. Even sexual perversion fans got here to this world through heterosexuality. They have a mother and a father. It is in the best interest of society to encourage the union of one man and one woman who are together responsible for their children. Whatever messes people make of their lives, they make. But the government should not encourage and reward the messes. That does not mean families must be perfect. But neither should they elevate perversity to be anything equal to the self-evidently normal family.

If things continue the way they are, I do foresee it changing. We don’t like it or agree with it, but I just see it happening. I don’t see it this election, though. The GOPe would do it in a heartbeat, but they know it would further alienate an already alienated base. Therefore, they will hold off...for now.
