Trump refuses to rule out third-party run if he doesn’t land GOP nomination
NY Daily News ^ | April 4, 2016 | Adam Edelman

Donald Trump continued his war with party bosses Sunday, once again saying that he wouldn’t rule out a third-party run if he failed to secure the GOP nomination and demanding that rival John Kasich drop out of the race.

“We’re going to have to see how I was treated. I’m going to have to see how I was treated. Very simple,” Trump said on “Fox News Sunday” when asked if he would categorically rule out running as a third-party independent candidate if he failed to win his party’s nomination. “It’s not a question of win or lose. It’s a question of treatment. I want to be treated fair.”

The comments came just days after Trump, Kasich and Ted Cruz backed out of pledges to support the GOP’s eventual nominee. Following the walk-backs, Trump met privately with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in an apparent effort to smooth things over, but on Sunday, the hot-and-cold relationship appeared on the verge of fracturing once again.

“Those kinds of comments, I think, have consequences,” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week” of Trump’s latest remarks. “When you make those kinds of comments, and you want people to fall in line for you, it makes it more difficult.”

In yet another interview, Priebus admitted he wasn’t sure whether he felt the former businessman was the party’s best candidate.

“I don’t know,” Priebus said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Listen, I don’t worry about who is the strongest candidate.”

Further suggesting Trump was undeterred by the criticism were demands he made during a rally in Wisconsin — whose pivotal primary on Tuesday will put for up grabs another 96 delegates — that Kasich drop out of the GOP race.

My memory says that their comments came after discussions about Trump, so I linked their comments to Trump.

Kasich couldn’t be opposed to a selectee out of the convention because that’s his only hope.

So, when does the RNC make its pledge? Oh, that's right, they've already gone second party, and are happy to stay second.

RE:”You want Trump to step out and I asked you now a couple of times why should the guy who is winning in anything step out to let the first place loser in?
Can you not answer that seeing as you keep spouting utter B/S like Trump should drop out”

Its you Trumpeters demanding that Ted drop out even though Trump hasn't got the 1237 delegates.

Trump's rules=surrender to him without a fight.

Cruz doesnt play by his rules.

Dump Trump!

“Trump, Kasich and Ted Cruz backed out of pledges to support the GOP’s eventual nominee”

The terms Republican and Democrat have lost much of their meaning.

I don't have a problem with Trump running 3rd party. The GOP is not a party worth having or supporting.

IF he has the 1,237 then he’ll get the nomination. If not he’ll go home and watch himself on TV. That’s my guess. I don’t think he’ll run third party. That’s just a bluff in my opinion.

Thank you. I was trying to figure out if there were other states tomorrow, or something else. Didn’t think to check the Dems.

I would be pleased to see that happen.

Personally, I think a Bush or a Ryan is indistinguishable from Clinton.

There are two possible 3rd party options for Trump if the GOPe decides to commit political suicide by ripping him off, the first option is the Reform Party, the second option is the American Independent Party, OR Trump could form his own party and he's certainly got the assets and the popularity to pull it off. The basic message for such a party?

"We're NOT the Republicrat or the Demoblican UniParty(c)!!

*NO MORE BUSINESS AS USUAL!*"

Yeah, Ted hopes to be maneuvered into the candidacy over Donald like Barack was over Hillary. It’s an honorable precedent. (Said with poker face.)

We need a plan. We didn't come this far to just walk away. If it comes to that, fine. Otherwise, we have to leverage what we have earned.

Jeff Sessions is acceptable to me. Probably to Trump as well. Trump can run his business, Jr. or Eric can go build the great wall.

But that is probably one day premature. We need to win Wisconsin and all this begins to become moot. And then we also get to see what real panic looks like...

Trump isn’t a Republican and never has been one

I will assume you're just ignorant. Trumps voting records came out during this campaign. He has voted Republican in every election he's been in. He's attended the Republican convention at least twice. He's contributed equally to Democrats and republicans but for the last 6 or 7 years he donated exclusively to Republicans.

If he runs 3rd party he will get 5 million more votes in the General than the Republican establishment installed candidate. It won’t be enough, but it would be the result.

Will you still be calling to Dump Trump! on April 26th when Ted Cruz is mathematically eliminated from the race due to the numerical impossibility of getting enough delegates?

Trump will still be leading, Cruz will be floundering as will Kasich.
