Concerns About Paul Ryan Emerging Out of Ted Cruz-Created Contested Convention as Nominee (trunc)
Breitbart ^ | April 2nd, 2016 | by Julia Hahn

In recent weeks, there has been increasing discussion about the possibility that House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)could emerge out of a brokered convention as the Republican nominee if the donor class is successful in denying Donald Trump the requisite 1,237 delegates.

Just as Paul Ryan’s ascension to House Speaker represented a total repudiation of the GOP electorate by GOP lawmakers, Ryan’s selection as the Party’s nominee would similarly represent the donor class’s silencing of voters and voters’ views on immigration, trade, and foreign policy that have transformed the country and its role in the world.

Regardless, many in the “#NeverTrump” movement have indicated that they would support Ryan against the wishes of the Republican electorate that has voted for Trump.

“If we don’t have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, I’m for none of the above,” said former House Speaker John Boehner, who exited the House shortly after teaming up with Ryan to give President Obama expanded trade powers. “I’m for Paul Ryan to be our nominee,” Boehner said.

“If it’s an open convention, it’s very likely [the nominee] would be someone who’s not currently running,” Ryan’s fellow Wisconsinite Governor Scott Walker said last week. Walker’s declaration follows an earlier pronouncement that he would be “just fine” with leaving his state’s Sanctuary Cities in place.

Another possibility is Daffy Duck! Both would achieve the same result.

The establishment LOVES Ryan.

The establishment runs the convention. They can easily vote to suspend the rules & shove Ryan into place. They very probably will.

He’d be just about as bad as Hillary on policy. It would be hard to be worse than Hillary on character. But, Ryan’s policies, especially on open borders, are really, really bad.

That might work in the cities, but in the rural areas? Good Luck.

They know this.

1. Do you think Ted can get more than 90% of the remaining delegates?

No

2. Do you honestly think the GOPe will accept Ted as their standard bearer?

That is an exellent question. It assumes that you don't believe the scurrilous Ted=GOPe nonsense that informs so much of FR these days.

Refreshing.

The answer is that I don't think they would accept Cruz. But I can't accept Trump for any number of legitimate ideolgical reasons. I may have earlier accepted some sort of alliance that appoximated the old Reagan coalition, but with the 11th Commandment now blown to smithereens, I fear that ship has sailed. So, we all have to fight on our repective hills I think.

Giving Paul Ryan the nomination that he hasn’t earned is a sure fire way to lose to the democrats. Is that what the GOPe wants?

It is only scurrilous if it isn’t true. Even then, it’s a real possibility, so it’s not scurrilous even if it doesn’t happen.

Something is happening, because the GOPe is not trashing Cruz, and all their point men are in Ted’s camp all of a sudden. It’s certainly not something that can be ruled out.

And if Ted is willing to work with this closely with the GOPe, that should scare the hell out of us all.

As for not being able to support Trump, I shake my head.

He is the only guy that is upsetting the apple cart.

Ted is not going to change Washington. He is a part of Washington.

Anyone who even turns on the news knows that. You are not to swift. Ben Carson can certainly tell you.

“He can’t win 1237 delegates.”

Sure he can.

When Trump gets less than 1237 before the convention, that means MORE than 1237 were won by someone else.

Cruz only needs to add some of the extra delegates to those he already won to make 1237.

Well being that I was in Iowa, and haven't found a single precinct that said the false report, it seems to me you have no evidence, just innuendo. Can you please give me the name of one person who changed their vote.

Yes, while we can be happy saying good bye to the GOP, we will be sad knowing America just committed suicide allowing these two to continue their work.

So Cruz steals enough delegates, GOPe nominates Ryan, Ryan choose Cruz as VP

On FR’s Iowa message board (accessed through ‘Account’ and then ‘My Locale’) there are a number of reports from FReepers about their personal experiences during the Iowa caucuses.

It would be very tough to control rural areas. Obama had the military practice this past summer. Regardless, what is beyond comprehension is we gave the RNC and Rep party control of both houses of Congress. Not one promise they made us has they kept. I have refused to return every RNC membership renewal form, the enclosed questionnaire plus the 2016 membership fee every time. I am past pissed at them. In TN both the Gov and Alexander (Senator) supported Rubio. I wrote Alexander and stated I was for Trump. He wrote stating the primary was like a football game and it was to early in the game to pick anyone. I wrote back-”you picked Rubio before the kickoff.” He has been silent.

Yes!

In a contested convention the only choice will be Trump or Cruz. They’ll choose Cruz.

I think you’ve been missing a whole lot of articles on the forum with the GOPe working to make sure a third person gets the nod.

You honestly think a person who now says he’ll build a wall and deport, is going to get the GOPe nod?

I honestly don’t see that happening.
