My generation is a disaster, politically. They typically hold views that either are in direct contradiction of one another, or make zero sense altogether. As The Atlantic noted in 2014, Millennials support President Obama and the concept of universal health care, but oppose Obamacare. They hate political parties, but are the demographic that give Congress its highest marks of approval. Were also the only age group, where a majority53 percentholds socialism in high regard. Yet, there is a silver lining, as both The Washington Post and The Atlantic noted that once Millennials get jobstheir support for socialism drops dramatically as they become more economically conservative. Fancy that; once you start getting an actual paycheck after working yourself to deathand see how much is taken out by Uncle Samincome redistribution really doesnt seem like a charming idea, huh (via WaPo):
Are millennials ushering in a sea change of public opinion? Do they signal the transformation of the United States into a Scandinavian social democracy.
[…]
The expanded social welfare state Sanders thinks the United States should adopt requires everyday people to pay considerably more in taxes. Yet millennials become averse to social welfare spending if they foot the bill. As they reach the threshold of earning $40,000 to $60,000 a year, the majority of millennials come to oppose income redistribution, including raising taxes to increase financial assistance to the poor.
Similarly, a Reason-Rupe poll found that while millennials still on their parents health-insurance policies supported the idea of paying higher premiums to help cover the uninsured (57 percent), support flipped among millennials paying for their own health insurance with 59 percent opposed to higher premiums.
When tax rates are not explicit, millennials say theyd prefer larger government offering more services (54 percent) to smaller government offering fewer services (43 percent). However when larger government offering more services is described as requiring high taxes, support flips and 57 percent of millennials opt for smaller government with fewer services and low taxes, while 41 percent prefer large government.
Millennials wouldnt be the first generation to flip-flop. In the 1980s, the same share (52 percent) of baby boomers also supported bigger government, and so did Generation Xers (53 percent) in the 1990s. Yet, both baby boomers and Gen Xers grew more skeptical of government over time and by about the same magnitude. Today, only 25 percent of boomers and 37 percent of Gen Xers continue to favor larger government.
Now, that doesnt mean conservatives should just stop emphasizing the importance of free markets and economic liberty because the tide of history seems to be with us once young Americans become employed and start making money. The good news is that the notion of Millennials becoming less economically left leaning once they start making $40k and more remains steady. Additionally, younger Millennials (18-20 year olds) arent as liberal as their older peers. So, alas, maybe there is hope for Millennials the economic front; they just need to find jobs.
Democrats create the disaster then claim they are the only solution for the disaster.
“Once they get jobs...”
Hence, the induced, historically low labor participation rate.
Their solutions for disaster is to create more disasters
That’s why the Dems want to keep people out of work or in crappy jobs. Its the only way they can make them wards of the state and in need of government handouts.
"....and if my aunt had...."
I blame getting rid of real cartoons like Road Runner, Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, Munsters, and Gilligan. These kids got stuck with 2D crappy cartoons where boogers, farting, and belching replaced humor.
YES! it’s disgusting.
Is it my imagination or is the girl in the center of the posted photo at an Obama—Biden rally actually wearing a Hillary t-shirt under a cardigan?
Our IT department is a “first job” for a number of very bright young people. Management schedules a meeting with them on or near their first payday to go over where the money went, because many of them can’t believe it. Lots of conservatives born on Sticker Shock Day...
What I noticed, maybe I’m wrong, but the leftist indoctrination centers that used to be known as our schools and universities now seem to be pushing a 100% success rate. I can’t remember the last time I met someone under 21 who wasn’t a fully zombified liberal twit. I went to see a friend of mine I didn’t see for a while, and his son is now 17 and WOW, his son is just as leftist as you can imagine. He hit on all the lib talking points, white privilege, rape, racism, Trump is evil, womans right to choose. I could actually see the hypnotic state in his eyes, the pinwheels, poor boy was fully zombified and indoctrinated. I think it’s time people starting really considering home schooling.
No way would the PC left ever allow Warner Bros. to make Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck cartoons today. Same for the Three Stooges.
Too “violent.”
I feel sorry for the kids for the crap that is forced on to them.
I have one like that...
She expected to graduate and walk into a $65K per year job and be rich. She was going to buy a tesla automobile and a nice house...
The $65K salary is NOT out of the question for her field of engineering, but I explained to her that $30K of that is gone right away for taxes.
She almost lost it right then and there.
But then I explained that food clothing, and housing would take EASILY another $2K a month, leaving her with maybe $8k left for spending. Considering she blows a hundred dollars a week on gas and movies and going out (easy) that would leave $3K for a DOWN PAYMENT on her luxury automobile, and $400 a month payments from then on.
On with 10 years of student loans to pay, that wont leave much.
But (here’s the kicker you have to make sure you add) AT LEAST THE GOVERNMENT WILL GET $30K A YEAR TO SPEND!
(she is one of those who ‘feel the bern’)
Obama- Biden
which looks eerily similar to
Osama Bin-Laden.
Coincidence or intentional? I would say intentional.
Whatever harms this country liberals will worship.
She is.
As another FR poster says, this is why they don’t do anything to improve job opportunities. This way they have more supporters. If people actually start being productive, they don’t want the government to take the fruit of their labor. Slackers and the indolent want the government to give them stuff free.
I watched the Gilligan episode the other day with the Japanese soldier that had coke-bottle glasses. Hilarious, but not fit for today’s snowflakes.
Little Rascals are awesome as well.
Well here's one old cartoon with belching.
Rock A Bye Bear (Tex Avery)
Public schools = stupid voters/people.
