Belgian police break up street protests as attack investigation widens

Belgian police briefly used water cannon to control several hundred rowdy protesters in central Brussels on Sunday after they ignored an official call for marches to be postponed following Tuesday's bombings.

Amid fears of further attacks, officials wanted to give police the scope to focus on investigations which have widened to other countries, leading to the arrest of an Algerian in Italy and intelligence cooperation with Germany. Police carried out 13 new raids in Belgium itself.

Hundreds nevertheless gathered at the Bourse to express solidarity with the victims of the suicide bomb attacks at Brussels airport and on a rush-hour metro train. Thirty one people were killed, including three attackers, and hundreds more injured. Islamic State has claimed responsibility.

Most of the protests were peaceful but white-helmeted riot police used the water cannon against a group of protesters, many of whom local media described as right-wing nationalists, who burst onto the square chanting and carrying banners denouncing Islamic State.

Because chanting and carrying banners is so threatening?

The world upside down.

The establishment thinks they are keeping the lid on
violence toward Islam, all they are doing is shutting
off the pressure relief valve and we all know what
happens after that.

They had better do the same when the next big Muslim rally takes place, but I doubt that would happen.

“...officials wanted to give police the scope to focus on investigations which have widened to other countries,...”

Correction: Officials wanted to beat down all public resistance to Muslim conquest so they could get back to molesting children (Muslim-approved and a Belgium official tradition). If they wanted police to “focus on investigations” of Muslim terrorists, officials would not have diverted police resources to crushing the free speech of a few hundred non-violent protesters. Mon Dieu, what if a Muslim’s feelings had been hurt?

The ‘simple’ explanation is

The ISIS types were NOT protesting the government, they were protesting people in general.

The anti ISIS protestors were protesting the ISIS crap PLUS a demonstration AGAINST the Government for allowing and encouraging ISIS types.

Europe has gotten to the point that if a ‘citizen’ bad mouths an ISIS type, it is automatic slander.

WE are heading in the same direction and not a whole lot of people in the US are overly concerned....

Reminiscent of

‘They’ came for the _____ and since I am Not ______ it didn’t really matter.

etc etc etc

And when ‘they’ came for me, there was no one left to care.
