Chris Christie is looming large behind the scenes of Donald Trumps presidential campaign, coaching him before the last GOP debate and lining up policy experts, donors and big-name backers, according to a report Friday.
The New Jersey governor is far more than just a high-profile supporter and has become one of Trumps most trusted advisers, NJ.com reported.
Christie is clearly making the transition from endorser to enabler and positioning himself to be a major player in the Trump camp, David Kennedy, a presidential historian, told NJ.com.
Edward Newton, who vetted Christie when he was considered a possible running mate for Mitt Romney in 2012, said the fact that Christie was coaching Trump shows how high his star has risen.

Yeah....... NO!
Donald’s AirPlane is going to need more powerful Engines.
If you have a NY president you need a flyover tea party veep
Christie doesn’t have any delegates. And New Jersey is not in play.
I think Kasich, with his delegates and favorability in Ohio puts him in a better position to be Trump’s VP
Yuck!
Won’t Kasich be Hillary’s running mate?
A match made in Ann Coulter Heaven...
The same folks that have chastized Christie for the last 2 years now love him because he’s joined at the hip with Trump.
You all know who you are.
Kasich is my pick for VP, for the reasons you state.
He'll help in other rust belt states and among suburban women, too.
I think Christie is the AG.
If Mittens had Christie the result just may have been different. He has energy and won’t back down. All the fat snide remarks aside.
Fat Chance
the lil trumpies will love the idea now
OK — now we just hope nothing happens to Trump.
One Yankee is bad enough but two...oh hell no!
If Trump wants to choose a governor for the spot, perhaps he could pick Ralph Torres of Saipan, the governor of the Northern Marianna Islands, who is one of his endorsers. That would at least make it an interesting ticket.
I’m not sure he would pass the vetting process, what with all that’s been reported here on FR about him and Gary Condit/Chandra Levy and the sex parties.
But, who knows? Time will tell, if it progresses to that point.
I think he is better suited for Attorney General. I would not be in favor of him for VP. Seeing how Cruz has degenerated I take Christie over Cruz. I never thought I would say that.
AG, you betcha. VP, no.
Trump will never name him VP. Never. He is using him now for the upcoming NY, PA and NJ primaries. He won’t need Christie after that until the general election. Christie will continue to do everything he can to help for a chance at the AG slot.
