When the Ford Motor Co. decided to move jobs south to Mexico so that it could pay its workers less, billionaire businessman Donald Trump was furious. He made trade inequalities and Fords betrayal of American workers a central issue of his campaign.
And, without his even being in the Oval Office, it worked.
In an interview with CNBC, Ford CEO Mark Fields said that the automaker would be here to stay. He also said he had outlined his companys plans in a letter to Trump.

GO TRUMP!!
A leader who isnt even President yet! Trump truly cares about this country, unlike the other candidates!
You are thinking static instead of dynamic.
This kind of reminds me of all the emotion around Obama when he won the Nobel Peace prize for doing absolutely nothing. The adulation needs to stop and thoughtfulness needs to replace unbridled emotion.
No, I’m simply old enough to remember when tariffs were put on import cars.
“... tariffs were put on import cars ...”

And what happened?
Do you not think it is good for the President to lobby for USA economic interests? Global corporations are no longer US corporations and they have no affinity to US interests. Times have changed and we need Presidents that grasp the need to change.
I will try to make it simple. The polls showing Trump ahead do not include democrats and in some states the polls do not include either democrats or independents depending on whether the state is an open or closed primary.
Let's try it this way. The polls showing Trump losing to Clinton include EVERYONE. That means republicans, democrats and independents, black, white and hispanic and native americans, etc. Get it?
In addition, the experts are estimating that the minority vote will total about 28% of the vote in November. So let's say blacks make up 11% of the voters in 2016 (it was 13% in 2012), which means that Hispanics will make up 17% in 2016. Clinton will receive 95% of the black vote. So you take the 11%, multiply by 95% and Clinton will receive 10.5% and Trump will receive 0.5%. Let's be generous and give Trump 40% of the Hispanic vote. To calculate, multiply 17 times 60% for Clinton. That number is 10.2, so Trump will receive 6.8. Totaling these two voting blocs, this is how it turns out:Clinton is at 20.7% and Trump is at 7.3%. So Trump already starts out 13.4 percent behind Clinton before counting the white vote.
This will sober you up, too. In 1988, H.W. won 59% of the white vote and won in a landslide (he won 40 states). In 2012, Romney won 59% of the white vote and lost. That shows you how much the demographics have changed in one generation. Trump will need to win more than 59% of the white vote to win the election.
In addition, Trump is the most disliked politician in America. He is more disliked than Hillary Clinton. He is disliked more than Cruz and Kasich and anyone else you want to mention. My whole family are Cruz folks and all but one are telling me they will not vote for Trump in November under any circumstances. The way Trump offends by saying Romney is not a Mormon offended an entire state. I could go on, but we all know how Trump offends. I think in the end they will vote for Trump, but at the moment, they are quite alienated and vocal in their disgust for Trump even if it means Hillary gets elected.
If Trump wants to win in November, he is going to have to do a lot of nice talk and win the good graces of lots of voters. After all, one third of republicans currently say the will not vote for Trump in November. Trump needs 95% of republican voters to win and at the moment, he is far below that. We will know better after the convention. Trump will need to unite everyone at the convention. It is hugely important, which means no more threatening tweets.
you don’t seem to get it.
The President, controls the International Trade Commission, and appoints the Commissioners who rule on Section 751 Complaints (dumping by foreign countries).
Basically Trump announces that everyone who has been economically injured by imports from Mexico since day -1 of NAFTA, or whatever, should get down to the ITC to plead their case.
Then Trumps ITC commissioners uphold every single complaint and start imposing gigantic tariffs on everything coming in from Mexico, including pickup trucks, cookies and HVAC equipment.
There is also Section 201-203 in the Trade Act with more grounds for the ITC to rule in favor of US interests injured by imports and impose trade penalties on the offending country.
like i say, the President has great authority in this area. All that is required is leadership.
You are delusional. I choose not to believe a poll that is hypothetical and 8 months before the actual election. There are plenty of polls that have been way off even during the primaries a few days before the vote.
The polls showing Trump losing to Hillary might be right but also might be wrong. Polls can’t predict the future and neither can you.
Wow, what’s the margin of error in your own Virginia work poll? Was that a scientific poll? I don’t know any of the 355,000+ primary voters that actually voted for Trump either.
Please believe whatever poll you want to believe.
We paid surcharges (listed right on the window sticker). Our government punished us the consumers for practicing free market principles rather than letting supply and demand correct the quality problem, which it eventually did.
But along the way, we were hit. None of the tariffs made any difference to the big 3...only lower sales finally did. We got screwed. And you want to go there again.
We used to be “smaller government with less interference in the marketplace” here...before Trump.
I agree that the nasty tweets need to stop. I just heard that it was a “nevertrump” group that posted the picture of his wife. I can see somebody like Romney behind that. I’m currently a Trump supporter but I can support Cruz if he gets the nomination as long as he’s not ‘appointed’ by the GOPe. Trump is not one to let an attack go and not respond but both of them need to settle down before they lose it all. I don’t like the nastiness from either of them.
Then he will lose because Trump is incapable of doing that.
If Trump behaves himself and acts like a normal human being then he may be able to win in November. If the election was scheduled for today, he would lose. That is why they have campaigns. He has time to rehabilitate himself, but he is the most disliked candidate of them all for obvious reasons. If he does more good things like the terrific speech he gave at AIPAC, he has a good chance of winning. If he continues acting like he is in third grade, he will lose. People will not vote for Trump just because he is not Hillary.
So if it's U.S. companies manufacturing the pickup trucks, cookies, and HVAC equipment and bringing it back to the U.S. then how can they complain they are economically injured by those imports?
A lot of conservatives tend to think so.
But one HAS to be impressed by the relentless indoctrination that our schools, media and 'entertainment' systems have wrought in the young minds of America.
Truly stunning!
We'd BETTER focus on regaining control of THOSE 'information' providers!
well they were purchased and controlled by nefarious groups long ago and for 50 years have sought to destroy us from within.
child molesters and homos. sickos. since the 60s they have been patient and devious.
what gets me is their grandparents probably came from a communist country or depressed country to make a great life here and this is how they repay America.
Since when is conservatism defined as "no loyalty whatsoever to the United States"?
Everyone who isn't a billionaire CEO globalist who has no loyalty to anyone but his wallet or a fanatical Ayn Rand cultist prefers good jobs to stay in the United States. It's something that unites workers, small businessmen, retired people, students, almost everyone.
The president should take America's side. Period. Any globalist scum don't like it they can leave. Set up their landed estate in Mexico and see how they like it.
