Camille Paglia: This is why Trump’s winning, and why I won’t vote for Hillary
salon ^ | March 24, 2016 | Camille Paglia

Posted on 03/24/2016 6:46:24 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Hillary Clinton’s Brussels response was basically boilerplate, calling for solidarity with Europe and playing chess with Trump to paint him as a greenhorn and hothead.

Bernie Sanders (whom I support and contribute to) had little to say, beyond conveying condolences to the Belgian people, because foreign affairs have unfortunately remained a sideline for him. Neither Sanders nor Martin O’Malley ever went after Hillary’s disastrous record as Secretary of State with the tenacity that they should have—a failure of strategy that has proved costly in the long run.

Trump may be raw, crude and uninformed, but he’s also smart, intuitive and a quick study who will presumably get up to passable speed as he assembles a brain trust over the coming months. Whether Trump can temper his shoot-from-the-hip impetuosity is another matter. There is a huge gap between the teeth-gnashing fulminations of the anti-Trump mainstream media and the perfectly reasonable Trump supporters whom I hear calling into radio talk shows.

The machinations of the old-guard GOP establishment to thwart Trump voters and subvert the primary process are an absolute disgrace. But it’s business as usual for tone-deaf party leaders who, barely more than a day after the discovery of Antonin Scalia’s corpse last month, stupidly proclaimed there would be no hearings for an Obama nominee to the Supreme Court.

Republicans need to wake up and realize that Trump’s triumph is not due to some drunken delusion by a benighted rabble but is a direct result of the proven weakness of their other candidates. Ted Cruz, the last one still standing, is bombastic, sanctimonious and coldly sharkish behind that forced smile.

I think one of the golden rules of forums in general is to stay on topic. Much less try to pass off totally unrelated info. Start your own thread. If it’s already been posted then most likely most people have already read it.

Paglia is an incisive social commentator, and one of the few honest and intelligent people on the left. But she is still on the left, and thus, in view of her honesty, is plainly one of that species of leftist who is simply clueless about economics (as distinct from the other species of leftist — charlatans who understand economics and know their policies fall within the continuum from infeasible to destructive, but advocate them anyway as a way of gaining or maintaining power). Sanders’ base is largely composed of those clueless about economics.

“Name a state that Romney lost in 2012 that Cruz can win in 2016”

New York.

Ohio.

I looked to data to support my post. I had read that people on Social Security had the highest incomes of any age group.

The data does not support that, so you are correct to chastise me.

We still have to get Social Security spending under control.

Interesting observations by an honest left winger. Who would have thought?

A person had better learn how to talk to real people before they deem themselved ready for the highest office in the nation. Not to mention building a track record of actual accomplishments and having more than one of their co-workers willing to support them.

Cruz is following the same exact path too many young people are doing in the business world - arrogant, narcissistic, big talkers with a burning desire for the next job but little concern about demonstrating they can achieve anything in their present job. Look how well this has worked out.

This is a great read, but I noticed she leaves out any discussion on why she supports Sanders. She does nail the other candidates though.

“Name a state that Romney lost in 2012 that Cruz can win in 2016” New York. Ohio.

You are dreaming. I have lived in the NYC area my entire life and there is no way that Cruz can win NY.

And how did Ted Terrific do in the Ohio primary?

I have noticed since her AIPAC speech, Hillary is using her grandmotherly voice. Apparently, the focus groups didn’t like her screeching voice.

Trouble is, her grandmotherly voice comes across as condescending monotone.

I

will

talk

slower so that

you

stupid voters

can understand

what

I am saying

to you.

Sorry, misread your post. You’re quite correct.

Trump, however, will win both quite handily.

Best,

Well she’s got Cruz’s number. As do many of us.

That is a nice picture of 3 she-males dancing! The guy dancing with the Rick James look-alike (on the right) is excluded.

“greedy Senior Social Security recipients”?
I am elderly on SS and I am lower middle class, and because of what our politicians have done, I am having to withdraw money every month from my savings. When I run out, I will go on welfare (or be thrown out on the streets). Take your pick.

“But even that is fought by greedy Senior Social Security recipients”

So, I’m greedy because I nearly worked myself to death all my life and had a chunk of my paycheck stolen every week at gunpoint that if I had been allowed to invest in a simple index fund would have made me a millionaire and would be mine to pass along to my heirs, but now I receive a pittance from the SS administration that goes poof the second I die, even if I die the next day after starting payments? That makes me greedy? Fuck you.

I think Cruz, if he was in consideration at all for anything, is Dead to Donald Trump. After the Ad fiasco on his wife Cruz will not be even be considered for Ambassador to the South Pole.

There is no future for Cruz re Trump ever.
