Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) on Wednesday blasted Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for suggesting police escalate their surveillance of Americas Muslim communities.
Its bad policing, he told host Chris Hayes on MSNBCs All In." "It doesnt help us get safer. It does undermine the rights of U.S. citizens and residents.
Were not going to let go of our American value system just because Ted Cruz is scared and doesnt actually want to do the hard work of actually making America safe and would rather just scapegoat a religious minority.
Ellison, who practices Islam, said his experiences living in Minnesotas Muslim neighborhoods disprove Cruzs suggestion they may hide future jihadists.
Im from Minnesota [and] Im a few blocks away from where he might be talking about in terms of Muslim neighborhoods, he said of Cruz, a GOP presidential candidate.
I can tell you this neighborhood is full of excellent, hard-working and patriotic people who love this country and make it better all the time. Im offended for them, Im offended with them.
Ellison additionally accused Cruz and Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump of using Tuesdays terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium, for scoring political capital.
I am so broken-hearted for the people of Brussels, said Ellison, who has endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in his Democratic presidential bid. "My sympathies go out to them. It is incredibly sad that their tragedy ends up being a political football in the United States.
People like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump try to exploit this for electoral gains. The fact is that what both Ted Cruz and Donald Trump have said is reprehensible, unconstitutional, counterproductive, wrong and bad policing, as [New York Police Department Commissioner] Bill Bratton has made clear.
At least 30 died and more than 200 others were wounded during a string of coordinated attacks across Brussels early Tuesday morning.
The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has since claimed responsibility, reigniting a national debate on the relationship between law enforcement and Muslim Americans.
Cruz called for increased police surveillance of Muslim American neighborhoods after the attacks, while Trump reiterated his past calls for a temporary ban on the Islamic faithful entering the U.S.
Trump and Cruz make suggestions to protect U.S. Citizens and this turkey has a fit, let him tell his sad story to relatives of murdered Americans at the hands of supposedly peaceful muslims here.
The Cruz campaign expanded this plan to include Christian “extremists”, so I look forward to goose-stepping Cruz supporters making sure every state is a caucus and everyone votes for open-borders CFG/CFR friendly “consistent conservatives”. You know, to prove they aren’t “radicalized” like Trump supporters who totally caused all those leftist BLM riots.
And Cruz supporters accuse Trump of wanting to be a dictator?
I hope Ted walks this back. It is a bad idea.
Well how ‘bout we conduct surveillance of all old folks homes and Head Start classrooms? Would that make you Muzzie folks feel any better?
islam is the enemy. All of it.
They were making bombs in their house/condo/apartment
They had other reasons to draw attention to their activities. Cruz is basically suggesting in a non-specific term that we adopt the profiling of the type practiced by the Israelis. As usual, Trump went there first but there is very little daylight now between their proposals and it is softening the hard positions some have taken against Trump to see the more “sensible” candidate come around.
That statement assumes facts not in evidence. (OK, so that is a polite way of saying that Keith Ellison is a bald-faced liar.)
Since when does Keith Ellison (Muslim Extremist, MN) share any 'American values'?
The author of this hit piece in The Hill, Mark Hensch, conveniently ignores Ellison's radical, America-hating past. Mark Hensch has committed journalistic malpractice by hiding the truth from his readers. (OK, so that is a polite way of saying that Mark Hensch is also a bald-faced liar.)
If there's any confusion about what Keith Ellison Muhammad is all about (yes, he used that name when he was a member of the violent 'Nation of Islam' hate group), or Keith Hakim (another name he has used), see:

The Muslims want no-go Sharia law zones.
There is no excuse for blaming Muslim communities for the terrorism and the terrorists that they promote, celebrate, and support? Okay. That’s what I expect from Ellison.
>>>Ellison, who practices Islam, said his experiences living in Minnesotas Muslim neighborhoods disprove Cruzs suggestion they may hide future jihadists.
What idiotic Islamic logic played infidels. Ellison also thinks man-made laws are superior Allah’s koranic laws? Ellison, you are muslim first
before you are an AMERICAN! Those koranic edicts set in motion what is required, like yelling out the Sahara!
Correction, Sahara should read, Shahada

I notice they didn’t denounce the Islamic terrorism, they just reiterated how they feel offended anybody associates Islamic “Allah Ackbar” with Islamic terrorism.
Peaceful, law abiding Americans take comfort from police patrols. Indeed, in many communities, an increased police presence is a frequent goal of citizen appeals to local government.
