Cruz on back to Texas, Ted. You gave it your best shot!
The Green Papers 2016 Presidential Primaries, Caucuses, and Conventions ^ | March 23, 2016 | Myself/Vanity/Data Analysis

THE DELEGATE RACE MATH ~ 35% of the primary election race remains.

Trump won 7,825,264 votes -—> 755 delegates.

T.Cruz won 5,737,119 votes —-> 465 delegates.

~~Countdown to 1237 delegates~~

There are 895 hard delegates remaining of which some are free/soft delegates. Some delegates have already been won by other candidates. We have 808 new delegates 'up for grabs' in the upcoming races.

Donald Trump: 755 delegates won. He must win 482 more delegates to reach 1237. That is 59% of the 808 remaining hard delegates. He may lose 397 more delegates & still win 1237.

Ted Cruz: 465 delegates won. He must win 772 more delegates to reach 1237. That is 96% of the 808 remaining hard delegates. He may lose 36 more delegates & still win 1237.

The current rules set a goal of reaching a simple majority of the delegates combined with a majority win of eight state delegations. When no candidate earns the majority of delegates, the rules change significantly.

And here's where it gets more complex: There are 345 delegates already assigned to other candidates: Kasich (144); Rubio (169); Others (15); Uncommitted (10). In addition, there are a few other free unpledged delegates from the islands and a few oddball states. Delegate reassignment is dictated by the one or more of the following: state rules, the state party leadership, the candidate, and sometimes the majority voice of the state delegation.

FWIW, here's Rubio's case of 169 delegates: 76 must stick at least through the 1st ballot and vote for him; 54 are instantly unbound; 19 are subject to state party leaders directions; and Rubio may release, but not redirect 29 of his delegates. (Read it on Newsmax attributed to The Hill.)

Don’t forget about the possibility of a contested convention.

That’s like telling your kid to pack up and get in the car when his football team is down by 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Nope, not gonna happen.

FR is full up on panicked Trumpeters pretending Cruz has some obligation to hand the nomination to Trump.

Cruz will win on the second ballot and Trump will be too embarrassed to even return to “reality” TV.

“Don’t forget about the possibility of a contested convention.”

The eGOP will not pick Cruz if they have a contested convention where they can pick anybody.

By not dropping out Cruz is showing he is nothing but an Establishment stooge, doing it's bidding to stop Trump.

Contested Convention Or as I like to call it, the ‘Death of the GOP’.

In which case Cruz still goes home empty handed. You’re dreaming if you think Ted’s new bffs will let him be the nominee

Non panicked Trump supporter here...the Trump train is rolling and will leave Ted in the dust holding Jeb’s and the GOPe’s hands wondering what the heck happened. It wasn’t supposed to be this way...Cruz has no obligation to do anything he doesn’t want to do...unless of course he’s concerned about his political future...with his last moves, it doesn’t appear he is.

More like 11 touchdowns. You can’t get the ball enough times to make it up.

Cruz will win on the second ballot, and 40 something % of the Republican Party will not vote. Cruz and his rat GOPe buddies will die a hard death.

“FR is full up on panicked Trumpeters pretending Cruz....blah blah blah”

Cruz has no path to the nomination. Sorry.

He is just there to give the Gope a chance to sneak in Jeb.

Please reread Ted’s own speeches urging candidates without a realistic mathematical path to the nomination to drop out...

Perhaps he could follow his own advice and ‘prayerfully consider’ whether he should continue.

Neither google or I know what “causus” is?

Cruz polls better against Hillary than Donald does.
