Washington Posts Karen Attiah sounded the alarms of sorts this afternoon when she Tweeted out the following cryptic message after a meeting with Donald Trump and the WaPo Editorial Board:
As you can see from the user engagement on the Tweet, people were quick to follow up on Attiahs commentary, asking for any clarification on this newly-emerging behavior from the Republican frontrunner.
Then Monday night, Attiah who serves as the Deputy Opinions Editor for the Post released her story with the headline I asked Trump a policy question. Then he called me beautiful.
Attiah mentioned, and transcribed, some of the policy-related conversation that they had with the Republican frontrunner (But do you feel that your messages, your rhetoric, are dangerous and divisive for this country?, seemingly commonplace topics for Trump questioning these days), before detailing the after-meeting exchange she shared with Trump personally:
As the meeting ended and we were walking out of the room, I thanked Trump for taking my question. He turned to me and said, I really hope I answered your question, and added casually with a smile, Beautiful. I was stunned. I didnt say thank you, and I dont think I smiled. He then walked out to meet with my Post colleagues briefly before heading to the elevator. I stayed in the conference room for a few minutes as it sunk in that the potential GOP nominee for president thought it was okay to comment on my appearance. Did he just say that?

IT WAS RAPE!!!!
THE HORROR!
If she thought for a second she had a shot at Dons money shed have been undressed in limo in 2 seconds.
Um, I don’t think he called her beautiful.
I think he was responding to the fact he answered her question and she had nothing to follow up.
Ahh..okaaaay.
She's floating that "Plantation Owner's RIGHT" BS.
They all want to be THE ONE who brings him down. Like Katie Couric with Sarah Palin or the Carter kid with Mitts 47%.
Jeesh. How about learning to take a compliment?
I used to be complimented on my looks when I was younger. I’m older, now. I kinda miss those days. :)
Enjoy it while ya’ van, honey.
beat me to it. just posted something similar
It is open to interpretation after all. Perhaps she is not beautiful and he was complimenting her for her intelligence.
She’s no beauty. The black lady I dated in 1988-89 was 20 times prettier than this broad.
Donald Trump and Clarence Thomas have something in common.
Just looked at her pic. A child with pretensions of adulthood.
Simple solution: Trump should tweet that he could never even imagine calling her beautiful. That the very idea of calling her beautiful would be revolting to him.
do women believe everything a man says...I don’t!
P.C. run mad. No one is allowed to comment on anyone’s appearance, unless you are an approved victim group; then you can do as you please.
Of course, you must observe victim ettiquete and protocols.
Victims that are higher on the victim status scale may not be criticized or attacked by those lower on the victim status scale.
Hah! One of those “How do you like me now?” moments.
