Is Capitalism or Socialism More Conducive to Christian Virtue?
The Lanier Theological Library in Houston, TX ^ | September 6, 2013 | Justice Antonin Scalia

Posted on 03/19/2016 12:56:25 PM PDT by patlin

Many years back, Justice Scalia was asked to give a lecture at the Jesuit School of Theology in Rome and the topic he was asked to address was, "Is the political philosophy of the left or of the right more compatible with the public good."

This topic should be of utmost importance to Christians, for by showing kindness and mercy to the less fortunate, not by coercion, but by our sense of morality & duty to God through the faith of Christ that is in us, these acts of kindness and mercy are steps in the process of sanctification that must be walked. Does not the very act of a socialist government, therefore, remove a most important step in that sanctification?

And so if this is important to Christianity, how much more so to Judaism?

Justice Scalia altered that lecture he gave to fit today's narrative of the direction in which our nation is going. This is a rather short lecture, full of the wisdom & wit Scalia was known for, you will not be disappointed.

As Mr. Scalia also pointed out: the charity of the church also extended to your spiritual well-being, which secular charity does not do and are quite hostile toward it.

I also was impressed by his point that being in need and receiving help is supposed to be humbling; it is now demanded and expected.

Capitalism teaches a man how to fish. Socialism teaches people only to eat the fish that others have caught

Thanks for the link, it was a very interesting article on the different ideologies, none of which Christ preached or walked, but interesting none the less.
