TIME TO DROP OUT? Ted Cruz Needs 87% of Remaining Delegates to Win Nomination

After Super Tuesday 2.0 Donald Trump is on track to secure the Republican nomination.

trump cruz 2

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) would need 87% of remaining primary voters to win the nomination.
It might be time for Ted Cruz to drop out and endorse Donald J. Trump?

The New York Times reported:

Donald J. Trump’s series of victories on Tuesday extended his delegate lead and forced Senator Marco Rubio of Florida out of the presidential race. Mr. Trump’s path to winning enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination is not assured, but he is in a strong position.

Here are some ways the Republican nominating contest could unfold. Try adjusting the sliders to see how the outcomes change. Each line in the chart represents one possible outcome.

If Mr. Trump maintains his current level of support in the remaining races, he would almost certainly secure the nomination.

After Tuesday’s contests, no other candidate retains a real chance of capturing the delegates required to win the nomination outright. Mr. Rubio dropped out, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio is too far behind, and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas would need to win the vast majority of the remaining delegates — a near impossibility.

Trump wins the general in a 50 state landslide.

Now, that's the spirit!

You can play your little word games all you want; I’ve given you responses and addressed your assertions.

So here’s the fact: Cruz isn’t quitting until the primary process is over. Get used to it.

And, considering THAT was the basic point of the argument, you’ve won absolutely nothing.

TED CRUZ WROTE GEORGE BUSH’s IMMIGRATION POLICY. Wake up.

You're referring to the 1999 point paper. So... would you like to discuss Trump's 1999 position on immigration?

There's a reason he staying in.

It's part hope, part delusion, part promises from the powers that be.

The GOP Establishment has no real alternative to Cruz, they have to keep him in the ring no matter how battered he is.

He is their last hope. He is being propped up with everything they've got.

Then when we end up with a Bush/Kasich ticket, we have no one to blame but people like you.

Congratulations. You sure showed me.

“When Trump loses to Hillary, it will be on his own merits. It will have nothing to do with what is happening now.

And on that day, I will be able to say “I told you so”. It’s not much, but it is something.

Small pleasures will be hard to come by in those days...”

So, it’d be your pleasure to have Hillary as President.

You need to take a few steps back, take a few deep breaths of fresh air, count to ten and THEN start thinking about political matters that will affect ALL of us.

Oh, and FYI, what happens now WILL matter in November - if the people who would normally (and this is NOT a normal year) vote against Hillary are engaged in an internal fight, then it will be much harder to defeat her. Thus, I believe that since it should be our joint goal to defeat The Witch, we should all be as united as possible.

Further, I’d honestly rather have Cruz, from the strictly ideological POV than Trump. But Cruz is, IMHO, unelectable IN THIS CYCLE, and Trump IS electable. I’ll take 70% of what I want, vs. a guy who offers 95% and a very small chance of any of it being implemented.

I didn’t say that Trump had it locked up. In fact, the very point of this whole discussion is that if Cruz continues (like Kasich), the delegates will continue to be split and we’ll have a contested convention...which only the GOPe will win (i.e. all of us Trump and Cruz supporters will be screwed) - and that will mean President Hillary.

If you actually tried to understand what I (and others, including the author of this article) are saying, you’d understand that Cruz CANNOT win...and by his own standards (which he has applied to Rubio and Kasich), he ought to exit gracefully and allow the Party unify behind one person. He could even cut a nice deal for himself if he does that in the relatively near future.

“You’re referring to the 1999 point paper. So... would you like to discuss Trump’s 1999 position on immigration?”

No, I’m referring to Cruz being Bush’s immigration policy adviser in 2008. AMNESTY, “Family values”, VIGILANTES!!!

You can discuss anything you like.

Here are the facts of #Trumps prior position IN WRITING: Trump from “The America We Deserve”, 2000 He has always been pro enforcement/anti INVASION!

IMMIGRATION- PROTECTING OUR OWN There’s another area of foreign affairs that doesn’t get talked about very much, but it is a huge issue: Immigration. America is experiencing serious social and economic difficulty with illegal immigrants who are flooding across our borders. Five million illegals live in this country.

Two million of them live in California. Seven hundred thousand undocumented immigrants live in Texas. We simply can’t absorb them. It is a scandal when America cannot control its own borders.

A liberal policy of immigration may seem to reflect confidence and generosity. But our current laxness toward illegal immigration shows a recklessness and disregard for those who live here legally.

Trump, Donald (2000-01-15). The America We Deserve (Kindle Locations 1670-1671). St. Martin’s Press. Kindle Edition.

Trump from “Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again,” 2011

Illegal immigration is a wrecking ball aimed at U.S. taxpayers. Washington needs to get tough and fight for “We the People,” not for the special interests who want cheap labor and a minority voting bloc. Every year taxpayers are getting stuck with a $113 billion bill to pay for the costs of illegal immigration.2 That’s a bill we can’t afford and wouldn’t have to pay if people in Washington did their jobs and upheld our nation’s laws.

“Anybody who thinks Trumps Supreme Court selections would be any better than Hillary’s is living in Fantasyland.”

1. They certainly can’t be worse. To the extent that they might be better (or not as bad), we’re better off (or less worse off). As one conservative radio host said last week, “I’m no Trump backer. But if you can say that we don’t know what Trump will do, it is equally true that we DO know what Hillary will do, with 100% certainty.”

2. How do you know who Trump will pick? How do you know that he won’t delegate the task of vetting judicial candidates (ALL of them, not just Supreme Court Justices) to someone like Cruz - especially if Cruz leaves gracefully now and cuts a good deal for him (and us)? You DON’T know - any more than I do.

If splitting the vote is the establishment’s way to get us to their preferred candidate, then all those who have joined in splitting the vote and all those who have played along are part of the plan.

That plan would be to give us Trump.

It all makes my head spin. Why would Cruz and Rubio and Bush and all the others play along with this?

Am I missing something?

Look at it this way...Trump has won 2/3rds of the states.

Kasich ....1/27th!

Cruz....he’s won 7 states. 1/4th.

Trump...2/3rds of the states...Cruz 1/4th.

Kasich needs to be told to get out! IF the RNC were worth spit, they’d tell him to go.
Ted needs to go back to Canada and stop screwing up this election.

I stand corrected on the immigration issue vis-à-vis Trump (with the exception of his stance on touchback amnesty and his penchant for hiring illegals)..

But my point stands that candidates have shifted positions on varied policy stances over the years. Trump has shapeshifted more than any other on a host of issues and gets an amazing amount of grace and forgiveness from his supporters.

All the more reason to nominate someone who will utterly clean house on these political vampires. Frankly, Trump and Cruz have at least this much in common - they hate the GOPe. Wouldn’t it make more sense for Cruz to cut a deal now, and as part of that deal they’d agree to get rid of Priebus and the rest of those scum - and let Cruz pick the replacements?

Trump + Cruz = Unstoppable - even if Cruz isn’t the VP.

Trump’s SCOTUS picks will depend on whatever mood he happens to be in that day.

It will go over 90% when Trump takes 58 in Az and at least 10 in Utah. Leave now for the good of the country and the conservative movement Ted. Man up.
