FL: Relatives of Dead Teen Burglar Defend his Actions

Trevon Slick Johnson FL Shot 2016

It is common for the relatives of young criminals to find ways to justify their criminal actions, while at the same time criticizing as illegitimate, the actions of the person who shot them.  We see a clear example of this in the shooting of 17-year-old Trevon Slick Johnson in Florida, 10 March, at about 5:30 p.m.

The 54-year-old homeowner had been repeatedly burglarized.  She was alerted by the alarm system that she had installed.  Police say the woman shot the young burglar after a confrontation outside the home.  She observed him crawling out of a window before he was shot.  Police arrived seconds after the shooting.  Here are some of the words of young Trevon’s relatives. From cbslocal.com:

“What’s wrong with her,” asked Johnson’s sister Nisha Johnson. “She did not have to shoot him.”

“It’s no reason she should have waited until I think he walked out the yard to try to shoot him,” said Harris. “If she called the police already why would she shoot him?”

Relatives said they don’t believe Johnson stole anything from the home but detectives would not confirm that.

“You have to look at it from every child’s point of view that was raised in the hood,” said Harris. “You have to understand… how he gonna get his money to have clothes to go to school? You have to look at it from his point-of-view.”

Is it bad that a young man was killed in the middle of a burglary?  Yes, it is bad.  I know someone who committed a burglary in high school.  He was caught, returned the property, was frightened of the consequences, and became a productive and upstanding citizen.  I think that people can turn their lives around at

The whole damn family should be in jail. I would issue search warrants for each of their homes to find out what stolen items they might possess since this is what they do for money

Well you need to look at it from the honeowner's view ya self absorbed beotch. Black thug breaks into your home to steal your $hit. You don't know ifs packing or not. You don't know if he's Muslim or if he's going to rape you or not. Ifyou took care of poor little Trevon and stopped going to bingo halls, buying lottery tickets, and alcohol or drugs little Trevon might have what he needs. If you had raised little Trevon right and taken him to church he might not be climbing into people's homes to burglarize them and get shot. I'm sorry but the Inability of some people to take responsibly and see things as they are really drags that demographic down. Thank God there are many that have gotten an education and taken responsibility for their own lives and stopped blaming others for their failures. I view them so much differently and they are so much more respectful and held in higher esteem.

He broke into some one else’s hoe to steal. As such, he was a mortal threat to the people in the home.

They had every right to recognize an intruder as such.

I know the parents and relatives are grieving...but the facts are what they are.

If they do not want their teenagers shot while engaging in burglary...teach them not to commit If they do not want their teenagers shot while engaging in burglary.

If Trevon II had raped and killed the woman, then I suppose they would be defending that too. That somehow she had it coming to her.

Nope.

This woman had friends in the home with her. I am not sue who it was, but Mr. Ruger, or Mr.Smith and Mr. Wesson, or Mr. Colt are all more than happy and ready to help their friends defend themselves and their families.

According to the story he turned and confronted the woman. THATS when she shot him.

It’s unfortunate that there aren’t more details about the confrontation the homeowner had with this burglar. That fact that she shot him outside as he was trying to leave indicates that this might not have been a clean shoot. Unless he threatened her or tried to physically attack her she may not have had sufficient reason to shoot him.

Who said he was fleeing? The story says there was a confrontation in the yard.

I remember too well the news reports that Trayvon Martin was shot in the back...complete with animation. Of course that was nonsense...so I would be very careful about making similar assumptions in this case.

The police have more information than anybody right now, and they have chosen not to charge the homeowner...there is probably a logical reason for that.

Personally, I’m tired of playing Monday morning QB in these shootings. If ‘Slick’ shows up uninvited at my house, I’m going to feel endangered from that second on, until the police clear the house. Who knows for sure that he doesn’t have a partner somewhere else in the house...or that he isn’t armed and about to pull out a gun? He initiated a very dangerous situation - I don’t think the homeowner should be expected to go ‘above and beyond’ to de-escalate it. IOW, I’d be firing like Yosemite Sam in that position.

Epic typo.

Look at the clothes he’s already got in that picture.

Forget the clothes, I doubt that school is in the picture.

For the same amount of time he spent burglarizing and then trying to sell stolen goods he could have probably asked the homeowner if they wanted a couple of hours work for pay

Excellent point, and one that will surely be lost in the dust-up to follow.

< I don’t know about Florida, but I know that in New York you are not allowed to shoot, if they are fleeing. You are only allowed to shoot if they pose a threat to you or someone under your care.

I'm under my own care and a black man who broke into my home is a threat.

Clean shoot?

You are presuming that the homeowner instantly knew all the parameters of the situation...which of course she didn’t.

All she knew is that ‘Slick’ is in the house. She doesn’t know how many of Slick’s friends may be in the house, doesn’t know if Slick is armed, or if Slick’s buddy is sneaking up behind her with a gun. She doesn’t even know its a burglary - for all she knows, Slick is there to rape and kill her.

So what if he left the house. He’s still in the yard, having a ‘confrontation’ with the homeowner. She’s been plenty threatened already.

FWIW, I've worked in corporate for a long, long time.

If you walk down the C-Level Executive suite, you'll find a ton of diversity. Both bathrooms, all colors, gay and straight, Liberal and Conservative. Lots of Bills and Als, Christies and Helens.

In 20-odd years, I've never met a "Trevon" at the C-Level. Or, for that matter, a "D'Mondre", "Ta'Aiya", or "LaDasha".

It's tough to get through life, as it is. Makes it harder when you come out of the nursery with three strikes against you already.

Under Obamic law if you are white, you are supposed to let black people steal or take whatever they want from you without defending yourself at all. It’s part of his repatriation program.

Seriously... How stupid are these people?

Seriously stupid - and without a speck of morality to boot. That makes them really dangerous to any civilized society this side of Lord Of The Flies.

We should bring back the stocks, whipping posts, and ducking stools. It might not cure their lack of moral center but it may help cure their pathological behaviors.

He should not have chosen such a risky career as the means to get his money.

Obviously he was raised poorly too. Just sayin', mom.
