On today's With All Due Respect, NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg broke some news, saying she thought President Obama "got a message from Republicans via backchannels that they would probably move this [Supreme Court] nomination after the presidential election."
Let's game-plan this out. If it means that Senate Republicans would move to confirm President Obama's pick of Merrick Garland even if a Republican were elected president, it would be a huge backstab of the Republican base. But if Republicans would only move Garland if a Dem wins, thus depriving Hillary or whomever of the chance to nominate an unreconstruced radical, then it could be a crafty maneuver. Totenberg added that once Obama got such a concession, Dems would "work very hard" to get other concessions, forcing a hearing and a vote.

So essentially what she is saying is that the GOPe need to put on a brave front for the election season so they look tough -
and upon securing election for the cronies they can revert back to the ‘el foldo’ and cave strategy.
Jeepers. Nina hasn’t aged well.
Well, LaVoy Finicum found out that they'll lie to you, then backshoot you.
Then lie about the backshooting afterwards.
During the Thomas confirmation hearings my initial first sighting lead me to believe that she(?) was a cross dressing Nazi war criminal. Still suspect that
The scenario being discussed assumes the GOP voters do not support the ticket in the fall and the Democrat wins. In that scenario the Second Amendment falls first (with this judge) and the First Amendment soon after (same or next judge). Religions will be required to recognize homosexual marriages. This will be the bitter fruit of the fratricide among the Republicans (who otherwise are the majority). Illegal immigrants will get a path to citizenship and the campaign finance ruling will also be overturned.
All for lack of true American patriots ... How did this happen so quickly ?
You are right.
They're not stupid. They are complicit. They've pulled the wool over our eyes for years.
Shame on us...
I was thinking about what happens if Hillary is elected and thought this eventuality would present the Republicans with a horrible choice, but the best of a bad deal would probably be to consent to the current nominee.
However, I think the Dems would ask Obama to pull the nomination so Hillary could nominate a super liberal who is young and could tilt the court for decades.
The folks who didn’t elect Romney have put us in this bind.
Nice try, Covenantor - but I had already set my wine glass down in anticipation of extreme wit. :)
Lol!
Enjoy your nightcap.
;>)
We switched after Romney.
Your tagline said it best....You do know most of these polls you like to follow are media controlled polls????
Show of hands... Who gives a sh*t what she thinks?
Is the GOPe Establishment at war with their voters? Are they nuts?
Sure. Doesn't necessarily mean they lie, though. The results are consistent with other data points; e.g. favorable/unfavorable ratings.
And don't the fave/unfave fit with what you can directly observe. There IS more resistance to Trump then there is resistance to other candidates. Note: I'm not talking about folks like you (or me), but the general public.
Well, no....What I see from the “general public” where I live is that Trump is by far the favorite...
What makes you say that? Who in the Senate do you think will lose their seats to democrats?
Where...you...live.
There are other places where that's not the case, y'know.
Well, that’s true, but check out the primaries and who has won what... if so many people, as you say, dislike Trump, how is he winning so much and so easily???
JBW, have you been paying attention?
Why has Trump not yet touched 50%?
Why is his favorable/unfavorable rating in negative territory -- along with Hillary's?
You are seeing what you want to see, not reality. The Donald may be beloved in your part of town, but there are millions and millions of voters out there who, right now, wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.
And denying their existence isn't going to solve the problem...
OK so theoretically we dump Trump.
Who then wins for our side in Nov?
The candidates who have been running 3rd in R primaries in the swing states?
