Supporters of Sens. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) took to social media to slam the freshman senators for blaming leftists shutting down a Trump Chicago rally on GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.

“I think a campaign bears responsibility for creating an environment, when the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence — to punch people in the face. The predictable consequence of that is that it escalates and today is unlikely to be the last such instance. We earlier today in St. Louis over thirty arrested. That’s not how our politics should occur,” Cruz said Friday. “You know, the City of Chicago in 1968 saw some ugly days when politics descended into hatred and incivility and even violence and it is my hope that in 2016 that we can appeal to our better angels and avoid going down that road once again.”

Cruz supporters, incensed by the Texas senator’s blame game, stormed social media to express their anger. Top comments on a Friday Facebook post promoting a Cruz “victory fund” drew furious responses (comments quoted here are unedited):

Jerry Shalow: Cruz you lost my vote for using this protest for your political game. Rubio also. Trump has my vote. How about the violations of the 1st amendment TED!!!!!!! Condone the violence what you just did.

Pappy Beagles: I’m a Texan, I voted for you for the senate, and was supporting you for president, up until you blamed Trump for the savage behavior of Hillary and Bernie supporters in Chicago. I just sent a $100.00 contribution to a billionaire, and i’m retired on a fixed income, so guess this is goodbye to you, and I am now firmly on the Trump wagon.

Gayle Natale: Mr. Cruz, I just listened to your response regarding the protestors who caused

“I wish those of us who support Cruz were as free to post here as trump supporters”

-—That has to be the biggest LOL moment in Free Republic history! This whole web site for months now has been nothing but one Cruz thread after another. The same Cruz stories get posted endlessly, and frankly, many Cruz supporters are worse then Dem Underground, so to make that kind of statement is just ridiculous

“Yes, it was dumb to blame Trump for it. But it was also dumb for Trump to blame Pamela Geller for inciting Muslims with the Draw Mohammed Cartoon conention in Texas. Same thing, but the Trumpsters seem to forget that part”

-—That happened last year, what Cruz did happened last night

“Cruz is right. But the thugs who think they alone are entitled to an opinion will never see it because of their Trump blinders.”

—Which is the problem. If Cruz won’t stand up for freedom of speech he certainly won’t stand up for anything else but you go ahead a vote away your rights with Cruz whilke the rest of us fight for ours

Amazing isn’t it. Some of his supporters are still committing political seppuku on this thread.

Excellent summation of the reality versus their futile grasp of it.

For the life of me, I am astounded at the lack of political acumen of Trump’s opponents.

This protest was a golden opportunity for any of them to say something along the lines of “God knows I have differences with Donald Trump, but this Brown Shirt attempt to block free speech is beyond the Pale and I heartily condemn it.”

Big Time Brownie points would have been made, and their polling numbers might have increased.

Instead, they all committed political seppuku.

I haven’t listened to Rush for years because it was obvious to me that he was a faker. By which I mean he knew all along what was going on behind the scenes in DC but he did NOTHING about it because he was getting rich so he pretended to not to have the whole picture. He called us conspiracy theorists back then and he sure as hell wouldn’t dare acknowledge the existence of Free Republic even though he certainly used our ideas all the time. But it must be getting real bad now because the sheer number of people complaining about him is off the charts.

“We’ve been looking for the enemy for some time now.
We’ve finally found him. We’re surrounded.
That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them.” ...Chesty!
