Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said during Thursday night's GOP debate in Miami that he had spoken with former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson for more than an hour about education and that Carson would be "very involved with education, something that's an expertise of his," in a Trump administration.
He stopped short, however, of specifying exactly what role Carson would have if Trump were to be elected. Carson was expected to endorse Trump during a press conference on Friday.
Trump's comments came in response to a question about the Common Core State Standards, which Trump said he wants to get rid of, along with the U.S. Department of Education.
As far as Carson and education goes, "he has such a great handle on it," Trump said according to a Washington Post transcript. "He wants competitive schools. He wants a lot of different things that are terrific, including charter schools, by the way, that the unions are fighting like crazy. But charter schools work, and they work very well."

So, Surgeon General?
I love it. One of Carson’s top issues/strengths. He and his wife run the Carson Scholarship Fund and have more than 10 years. Look at some of these children and their stories.
THINK BIG.
What kind of education post if Trump gets rid of the Department of Education?
Surgeon General is like a figurehead position. I can’t remember a thing any of them has said since C. Everett Koop.
surgeon general is a bureaucrat
Carson will tend to putting the health care system after congress cancels obamacare
I thought Trump was going to do away with the Department of Education and government involvement with schools?
Well if he gets rid of the DoE, maybe Carson can run the Education Department. Totally different entity. It’ll be the greatest agency of all time. People will love it. It’ll be huge.
Can you imagine if the department of education took away its state mandates, common core pushing, etc., and instead was merely an office for Carson to evangelize his wisdom on education, particularly for the underprivileged? No Title I funds, as long as we have them, unless the schools teach pure phonics?
That could be a powerful start that could ultimately stretch to other entitlement programs.
By doing what?
Trump can’t do away with more than Congress will allow him to do away with.
The DOE absolutely needs to be abolished. Cruz wants to get rid of the DOE, and that is just one reason why I support him.
In 2010, Barack Obama called for fixing the public education system by giving us the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and Race to the Top,
which he said would fix the education system already fixed by the 2001 GW Bush and Ted Kennedy legislation called No Child Left Behind,
which was supposed to fix a system supposedly already fixed by a 1994 piece of federal legislation called Goals 2000,
which was supposed to fix a system already fixed by America 2000,
which was a 1991 response during the Bush administration to a 1983 federal report on education called A Nation at Risk,
which was published a full four years after Jimmy Carter first fixed the nations public school system by establishing a cabinet-level Department of Education in 1979.
Yeah other than Jocelyn Elders: “Make abortion safe legal and rare”
Yes, Carson would be better than goingredients on TV and urgingredients ppl to not smoke
That's true of everything else he's promising.
Is Trump a big government populist? Where in the Constitution does it say the Federal govt. should be involved in education? Nowhere, of course. So, Trump won’t eliminate the Dept. of Education, but instead will make Carson its HNIC?

Teaching about ancient Egypt and pyramid schemes?
J/k
He has his own program and will take the lead working with the congress to sort through the several other programs in the can so to speak, to come up with a single plan acceptable to the congress.
I don’t know what it will be and likely will be implemented as several bills rather than one humongous law
He could teach people how to spell ppl.
