It only benefitted the front-runner.
Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz and Governor John Kasich did their best to underscore their policy acumen and to highlight Donald Trumps lack of substance.
It backfired.
Neither his opponents on stage nor the debate moderators laid a glove on Trump. When Trump repeatedly called Putin a strong leader without refusing to place a value judgment on his leadership, neither moderator Jake Tapper nor his opponents on stage pressed him. When Tapper asked Trump about his violence-inciting rhetoric at rallies, none of Trumps opponents called him out for refusing to disavow it.
There is no bigger indicator that Trumps opponents on stage were simply going through the motions. Trump spent the night running down the clock and the remaining candidates spent the night checking the boxes. For at least two of them, this was their last chance to distinguish themselves in advance of what will likely be the most crucial primary day of the cycle next Tuesday.
Rubio, in particular, seemed most chastened by his earlier decision to get in the gutter with Trump. Gone were the snide remarks about genitalia

“...we know that Blaze and Drudge have a hard-core bias toward Cruz.”
Not Drudge.
The Federal Reserve admitted some time ago that the policies of the Federal Reserve caused the Great Depression. Two major policy causes:
1. Destroyed the banks by making it impossible for the banks to borrow money from the Fed. If the banks had met the Fed’s stringent requirements in order to borrow money, they would not have needed to borrow any money.
2. Withdrew money from circulation. An old timer once told me, “there was just no damn money”.
There were a few more stupid policies.
He is a human Dynamo, and I have been thinking the same thing about press conferences.
He makes them look easy.
Huey was more like a Bernie than a Don.
Rampant speculation on stocks without fundamentals to support speculation, couple that with insider trading and investors buying on margins (small down payments) and borrowing the rest (highly leveraged).
Cruz did not fool this “low information” Trump supporter on that one.
Drudge now has a link to a video where Cruz is being told he was anointed by God to be President. Sorry, that will not work well in a General election, it comes off as excessive Hubris to put it mildly.
Oh, I gotta see that. Those who don’t know Huey, he is the one who coined the expression “a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot.
fished=schlonged. ;-)
I always thought Audrey Meadows was kind of cute, too.
“I always thought Audrey Meadows was kind of cute, too.”
The funniest scenes in The Honeymooners are when Alice stands up to Ralph. I can’t imagine how Audrey played those scenes without cracking up.
How about Melania? /sarc>
(I *know*, I *know*.)
Trump has peaked. He's mired in a first place rut and can't seem to do anything about it. He might as well withdraw from the race.
“And it’s all over but the crying” ~ Hank Jr.
And just what in the heck is THAT supposed to mean?!?!?
Nooo... Ivanka.
California is cold to Trump, he’s only leading 26% - 19%.
Had Rubio acted like this the entire election he’d be ahead of Cruz. If Cruz had acted this way the entire election the race would be different. But both of them acted like little kids plus Cruz lied and cheated. It cost them both. Now they’re all running for vice president.
Are you kidding? The most powerful person in the gopE would love to be veep. Nobody wants the job but nobody turns it down.
Funny...Trump got 62% on the Blaze! Glenn, Pat and Stu must be going apoplectic! :-D
