In an update to a CBS News investigation of the country's largest veterans charity, Wounded Warrior Project, the board has fired the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer.
The CBS News investigation raised questions about how the charity spends the millions of dollars it receives in donations each year.
Wounded Warrior Project's CEO, Steven Nardizzi, and COO, Al Giordano, were fired after criticisms from more than 40 employees about how it spends its more than $800 million raised in donations in the past four years.
The allegations include lavish spending by the charity at staff retreats, and other costs, at the expense of programs for veterans.
The charity's board of directors made the decision after meeting this afternoon in New York, Chip Reid reports. Sources tell CBS News the board has received preliminary results of a financial and policy audit, but there are indications that investigation will continue.
There are also discussions underway about retired senior military officials who are being considered to take over the helm of the organization, which has raised more than a billion dollars since its inception in 2003.

For their next project, CBS News will do an investigation of The Clinton Foundation, with a full length 60 Minutes report of the results.....
Mmmm...... maybe not?
(BTW, jail time for these WW execs)
I wish I’d done the same thing. I just shred everything. I get so disgusted at the time it takes to shred all the nonsense junk mail that I never thought of taking the time to tell them what I thought. I wish there was a way to bill the mailers of junk mail and make them reimburse the recipient for all the wasted time. I’ve often thought a garbage can beside the mailbox would be more convenient.
The dirty big secret...most non-profits are scams.
The executives live lavish and opulent lifestyles virtually tax free, and give a pittance to their actual charitable endeavor.
Think Clinton Foundation...
These guys make me sick.
It also makes me sick that our government doesn’t give our disabled vets every bit of support they need.
They have undoubtedly spent all the money.
EVERYTHING!!
shut down the alphabet agencies and give it to them!!
James Gandolfini was a lefty but he did a GREAT documentary with the soldiers. They really took to him. non political.
It’s a tearjerker.
No, some are very good. You have to look at the public financial statements.
These guys should be in jail. Trace Adkins should just be very ashamed of himself.
They must be too young to remember the United Way scandals.
And what is Trace Atkins cut?
Yes!
My words Exactly!
Bringing down high 6 figures salaries - suing other Vet help group, 'helping' just about enough to publicize -
There is justice, after all?
[ I realize they were being scrutinized...]
They were scrutinized by Trump and that’s why they weren’t on the list to received money from Trump Vets rally.
I keep their stamps...SO THERE!
If O’Reilly doesn’t mention this story he’s a sorry SOB. I’ve written him for years and told them they were a scam.
Any celebrity used as a spokesman should quit on the spot. Trace Adkins is bought to have known about the investigation and his commercial is on 50 times a day a Fox.
We gave to WW once. Then the stories of financial abuse started. If they can clean up their act, I would consider them again. But I will be vigilant in checking on them.
Yet how does Salvation Army get away with paying their managers such an exorbitant amount?
what’s a congressman make?
what’s a soldier make?
who’s worth more?
Imagine a country where congressmen gave up a THIRD of their checks for a year to the wounded vets. 2/3 of 174k is livable.
or a president.
That’s right. Sorry bastards.
