Cruz: I'm fine with contested convention
The Hill ^ | 03-09-2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Ted Cruz says he would have no problem with a contested convention over the summer in the event neither he nor Donald Trump secures enough delegates before then to lock up the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump suggested Wednesday morning on "Fox and Friends" that Cruz was making the statement "because he had such a bad night last night."

The Cruzbots will just ignore this...like every other thing that comes up against their precious St. Rafael de Canada.

If this was a baseball game, we’d be looking at what, strike 11? 12?

If neither candidate has the 1,237 delegates necessary to win, how do they determine who the candidate will be? Cruz is simply stating the obvious.

No, Cruz is stating that he does not support the idea that the candidate with the most delegates gets the nom. Now why would that be? Hmmmm. Put your thinking cap on and I bet you can figure it out.

At this point I am sad to say, a contested convention seems his only chance at securing the nomination.

Useless GOP waste who have no chance of winning and only staying in the race to cause a brokered convention need to drop out.

Like I said, I’m not going to vote for a brokered nominee, or any other GOP.

The alternative is don’t f***in’ do it, or else.

Cruz is making it impossible to support him. He is clearly a purchased product. It’s no wonder the evangelicals who won’t drink GOP Kool-Aid are going to Trump.

If all of you Trump supporters know that there is a difference between a "brokered" convention and a "contested" convention, but you are still trying to tar Cruz with this, then you are dishonest.

If you don't know that there is a difference, educate yourselves.

Of course not. None of them do. They are hoping the GOPe will shepherd them in over Trump.

Cruz is clumsily positioning himself as a “unity” convention candidate over a candidate with MORE delegates (Trump). IOW, Cruz is fine with disenfranchising the base to advance his career. Should be no surprise but there it is. Only those with Cruz loving eyes can’t see it.

If nobody gets 1237, then we will have a contested convention.

Are Trump supporter implying that even if Trump doesn’t get 1237, he should be automatically named the nominee anyway?

In that case why even had the rest of the primaries, just name him now and get it over with. Who needs this voting thing to get in the way.

“I wish Trump had a slightly finer edge... but well, if Patton had a finer edge he would have gone ashore commanding the landing at Normandy and we would not have lost all those men in the hedgerows.”

Somehow a polished demeanor and commanding well from the trenches don’t go together. Churchill and Patton, like you said. Reagan seems to be an exception, but he wasn’t trying to change the course of the nation as much as Trump is - we’ve have veered left and going back will be a formidable battle.

No the rules say that you must receive 1237 delegates to win the nomination. It's really pretty simple if you're not being intentionally daft. If the rules get changed then so be it. Reagan and Ford went through the same process.

I think it depends on the outcome of the contested convention. If no one gets the right amount of delegates who wins? If they are only few votes away...then the lead in delegate count should win.

But if they are a couple hundred votes away then what else are you going to do? It has to be a contested convention. Do I like it no...I’d rather have it be clear cut so no one can cry about it later. Now if they hand the nomination to someone like Kasich who has been lin last place the whole time...that would be outrageous. But if Trump teams up with Carson and then gets enough delegates then Trump wins. So be it.

Yes, Mrs. Cruz is currently employed with Goldman Sachs and is currently on leave to help with the campaign. Once the campaign is over, she is going back to work.

That is what it should have been all along.

Then change the rules, but don't fault a guy for playing by the rules.

Dear Trump Supporters,

The headline is meant to deepen our divisions. Who wouldn't be in favor of the process playing out according to the rules in the event neither has the majority they need?

Please stop with the knee-jerk reactions to the MSM. It isn't helpful to either cause.

If Donald Trump gets all the delegates he needs, there won’t be any contested convention.
