GOP establishment creeps toward Cruz

Republican elites are begrudgingly embracing Ted Cruz—and hanging Marco Rubio out to dry.

Panicked at Donald Trump’s dominance and dismayed by Rubio’s continued inability to do anything about it, some top Republican power brokers are turning to Cruz, putting aside their policy and personal misgivings to back the candidate they now openly label as their best hope to stop Trump’s GOP takeover.

“He seems to be the only guy who’s got some momentum, and is probably the best situated if there is anybody out there to beat Trump,” said Austin Barbour, a prominent Mississippi-based GOP operative. “That’s why there are many people like me—Ted Cruz wouldn’t have been our first choice, but as we go through the process, we’re reevaluating our vote, and he seems to be the guy at the top of the list.”

“Most people now think Ted’s the best vehicle to defeat Trump,” said Charles C. Foster, a Bush family loyalist from Houston who served on Jeb Bush’s national finance team. “I would say some are enthusiastic for Ted, some are just saying, ‘OK, Ted’s not my first choice, but anyone that can beat Trump, I’ll support.’”

Cruz is not like by the “establishment” at a personal level. They just think he is a jerk, but he is their jerk. The only real American running and the only threat to end the corruption and theif of American wealth is Trump. FYI Team Bush joined Team Cruz yesterday. If that does not open some eyes around there nothing will.

cruise is the obvious choice for GOPe over Trump. First, he would lose the general to hillary, which is preferable to winning with Trump. Second, cruise losing would be a giant conservative black eye. Win-win GOPe.

The optics of getting behind Cruz has some interesting positives for the GOPe. First, they can stay in the party and retain legitimacy versus disclosing their hand by outright jumping ship for Hillary. Second, they can pretend they are sincere and loyal Republicans by getting behind a conservative Republican. If Cruz wins, his donors and the party who will be needed to finance his effort against Hillary have a chance to control him versus no control with Trump. Then, by supporting Cruz only in a lukewarm manner, they calculate Cruz would be much more likely to lose to Hillary than would be the case with uncontrollable Trump who will personally invest whatever it takes to win. Then, in all their feigned righteous glory they will proclaim that they were loyal Republicans but the loss by Cruz just proves that “extreme” conservatism is dead in this country for good. For the elites, the oligarchs, it would be a win, win situation in duping the hated and disposed voters.

‘What has Donald Trump actually DONE? What is his RECORD? To back up his TALK.’

And what executive experience does Cruz have? He debates in congress. He worked in the legal field.

No one had more experience than Trump would walking in than Ike. And I suppose one could ask, ‘What did Ike actually do? What was his record? To back up his talk?”

Executive experience.

As for ‘constitutional roots’ the evidence is clear: Trump’s nominees. Cruz could only retort by saying, “Trump won’t invest political capital into those nominees.”

Does that sound like Trump? He likes to win for one thing. And an experienced leader knows how important it is to stand by each loyal and talented member of your team.

Cruz actually wants people to believe that Trump would leave a nominee hanging. Heck, Trump would be more loyal than average to his nominees. And even Cruz concedes that Trump’s judicial nominees are fine. He ought to. They are outstanding.

So, constitutional roots are covered. As if that was the ‘end all’ in a nominee. Just one aspect of a good president.

And while we need to get the truth out, we also need to mend bridges if we can.

1. Trump is not a traditional conservative. Difficult for traditional conservatives to support.

2. Cruz supporters love the USA deeply. They drive people nuts, but only because they care.

3. You have to admit, Cruz was the last one the establishment turned to. They know he would not be a lap dog by any means. In fact, I think they plan to sabotage him.
