Cruz looks to take on Rubio, on the fellow senator’s Florida turf
Washington Post ^ | March 4, 2016 | Katie Zezima and Matea Gold

Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign is moving hard into Florida, where the senator from Texas hopes to knock out rival Sen. Marco Rubio and position himself as the only last alternative to front-runner Donald Trump.

Cruz’s campaign announced Friday that it is opening 10 field offices in Florida, which holds a Republican primary March 15. Trump has a big lead in the polls there, but Cruz’s campaign thinks it can increase its support in the state by appealing to conservatives and positioning the candidate as an alternative to Trump.

“We recognize that it’s an uphill battle for us, but it becomes a lot easier if we can consolidate the anti-Trump vote,” said Manny Roman, the chairman of Cruz’s campaign in Miami-Dade County.

Kellyanne Conway, president of one of the super PACs that was consolidated, said the group had planned to stay out of Florida but now may go in.

“On the one hand, it would be easy to stay with our original plan, which is: ‘Don’t spend a penny in Florida because it’s winner take all,’ ” she said. But, she said, “we’re starting to wonder if playing in Florida is probably a great idea because Rubio is doing so poorly there.”

Ted Cruz Is Ready To Fight For Florida

...."Florida is a closed primary state which means that many of the independents and disaffected blue-collar Democrats who have helped out Trump will not be allowed to vote. And, as we saw on Super Tuesday, the polling, generally, overstated Trump’s support by about four points and understated Rubio’s by about three points.".....

Ted Cruz makes play for Florida

The Florida duel between Donald Trump and Marco Rubio has a new player: Ted Cruz.

The Texas senator has opened 10 campaign offices in the Sunshine State ahead of the March 15 primary, volunteers told the Miami Herald. The campaign confirmed the new offices Friday, including one that opened a week ago on Miami's Sunset Road and 97th Avenue.

"Following a strong showing on Super Tuesday, the Cruz for President Campaign is communicating a serious commitment to competing hard in the winner-take-all Sunshine State primary on March 15th," the campaign said in a statement.".....

He’s not trying to win. He’s trying to kneecap Trump. This is a part of the GOPe ploy to do strategic voting I’m order to keep Trump from winning on the first ballot. Cruz is now a I’m with the GOPe. I bet he doesn’t run even one ad against Rubio. It’s going to be a 100% anti Trump campaign. Pathetic

Trump will easily win Florida. The problem for Rubio and Cruz is they have no accomplishment to run on so they have to go negative. And when those two clowns go negative they look like jerks and their poll number drop.

I guess if Cruz pushes Rubio into third place in Florida it is worth the effort. But he is still not getting any delegates.

Trump ahead but Cruz will likely tell you he forced Rubio out Evan if Trump wins. Kind of like Obama will claim for solving the Syrian problem after Russia has done the heavy lifting.

Ted is now reduced to fighting for second place? In the RCP average Ted has less than half the support that Marco has. Even if Ted takes all of Marco’s votes, he still doesn’t catch Donald Trump.

I came in second to Donald Trump, but I beat Marco in a winner-takes-all State! No delegates, but it feels good, and I got a great tan!

IMO, the purpose of posting poll results is to influence potential voters towards one side or the other, depending on how you want them to shift.

It’s time for us to take off our blinders and become awakened to the fact that we have been living in a lunatic socialist ‘paradise’ for years.

Now, if Bernie or Hillary is elected we’ll have a chance to see what it’s like to live in a dark, sinister communist nation. Think of the fun this entails as the FBI morphs into the old KGB. We’ll be engaged in spy situations and will experience that rush of adrenalin as we play James Bond.

Behind every tree and building lurks an enemy.

Under a true communist government the Muslims will all be sorted out, along with the millions of Mexicans and other assorted south of the border types, whisked off to a slave labor camp and never seen again. Their untimely end will never be known but that large supply of ammo purchased by our old government will have been depleted somewhat.

A communist government can’t tolerate dissention so that BLM gang along with Muslims and illegals will be excised.

Funny, what a percentage of our population have wished for will ultimately become its complete demise.

That really doesn't work because Cruz' approach in this part of the country is that we are down to a two man race, and if you don't want Trump, you have to go with Cruz. In other words, Cruz is trying to drive Rubio to 3rd place (though winning Florida and its delegates is welcome, if a longshot), and then Rubio would leave.

In a three man race, Kasich and Trump fight each other over the northeast, and Cruz goes pretty much head to head with Trump in the west and mountain states, leaving only the uppermidwest where you have three candidates competing.

Cruz wants to win it, and he wants Rubio out for his path.

Go ahead, let the Cruz ship throw money down a hole and lose. What good is it if they end up second or third? It just hastens their demise. Have at it!

Lol, Trump is ahead by 20 points in FL.

Don't laugh too soon. I just heard from a long time Florida pal {former 'Burgh resident} he told me he can't turn on his TV because of the constant carpet bombing negative ads of the Donald. He said it is 7/24 and on almost every station.

Negative ads work, I don't know how much is being spent but you know that the gope is pulling out all of the stops in Florida and Ohio.

FINALLY Cruz is being helpful to Trump. If Rubio were to win Florida, it almost certainly ensures a brokered convention. Now Rubio will FINALLY dispatched.

Hopefully Cruz helps out Trump in Ohio too.

Negative ads normally work but Florida is an interesting primary.

Nearly half of the voters have already cast their ballots (presumably for Trump in large margins). Those early ballots probably had Rubio in second.

So, to the extent Cruz runs a late strong campaign he will only make it harder for Rubio to catch Trump.

Bottom line—Cruz is wasting money that is only helping Trump win the state.

That is extremely poor strategy—as Cruz and his soon to be fired campaign advisors will find out on the 15th.

In a head to head match up's between Cruz and Trump alone, Cruz wins. If Cruz can knock out the other contenders he wins. The GOPe knows this as well and may very well continue to pour money in Rubio's campaign even if the little worm comes in 3rd in his own state. Notice how Kasich is still said to be in the race . If you look at the actual results Kasich was coming in last (behind Carson!) in most states! An utterly pathetic campaign that is still maintained by the GOPe in the hope for a brokered convention and/or a Hillary win.

The only thing important to the GOPe and other members of the Uniparty is they maintain their grip on power . While Trump is a threat that might be overcome with a deal they know Cruz is running to take them out.

Absolutely Cruz can win delegates with this move. Just not Florida delegates.

If Boobio is forced out of the race Cruz can pick up more delegates in states that won’t vote for Trump.
