#60: Dolly Parton: “Jolene”

She’s been married to the same man for fifty years. She started out as a songwriter, then as a duo with Porter Waggoner, and then she went solo with this haunting tune. Its use of the pentatonic scale makes it sound like an American Indian melody.

I made it home!!!! White knuckle all the way. Sliding stops at every place I had to stop. Spinning wheels trying to get started. I have 4 wheel drive, but I don’t feel like it’s working. Mom is now fed and I can sit down at the computer. I think I don’t need to be going to any of the places on my list for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the start of Iditarod, and the usual stockpiles of snow have melted. The railroad brought 7 cars of snow down from Fairbanks just so the ceremonial start could take place here. I think you have a 4th Avenue camera and that is where the race starts.
