Robert Jeffress: ‘No Christian Has the Right to Impose His Preference as a Litmus Test

Whole Title: Robert Jeffress: ‘No Christian Has the Right to Impose His Preference as a Litmus Test for Someone Else’s Christianity’

Robert Jeffress, the pastor of the 12,000 member First Baptist Church in Dallas who has endorsed Donald Trump, is pushing back against several high profile Christian leaders and pundits who have mocked the professions of faith of Trump and anyone who votes for him.

“Every Christian has the right to his own opinion about a presidential candidate, but no Christian has the right to impose his preference as a litmus test for someone else’s Christianity or spirituality,” Jeffress tells Breitbart News in an exclusive interview.

“Some Christians, including a well-known Christian author, have denounced Trump for his ‘tone’ and ‘vocabulary.’ However, when I’m looking for a leader who is going to sit across the table from Iran or confront radical Islamic terrorists, I don’t care about that leader’s tone or vocabulary. I want the toughest, meanest, son-of-a-gun I can find!” Jeffress adds.

From radio hosts Glenn Beck and Erick Erickson to Richard Land and the editors of the Christian Post, self-proclaimed Christian “leaders” are rushing to render their own Biblical judgments on Trump and his political supporters.

I quoted James 4:11-12 as the Biblical support for the statement that Pastor Jeffress “is pushing back against several high profile Christian leaders and pundits who have mocked the professions of faith of Trump and anyone who votes for him.” Thinking one can judge another Christians heart is putting one in an exalted position that even a forgiven sinner doesn’t warrant.

Jeffress and Falwell crossed the line, publically endorsing a politician when they are leaders of congregations. It’s clear they put their trust in men, not God.

So he’s exactly the hypocrite I suspected. It’s okay for him to judge the Christianity of all Catholics but it’s not okay for anyone to question his Christianity for supporting someone who said he’s never done anything wrong and therefore has never asked for God forgivness

True. Any so-called “Christianity” which ejects the Laws of God and elevates using another human being as a “Means to an End” can be judged-——and should be Judged.

There is White and Black in God’s Laws. Truth is very clear, and you are supposed to reject sin (unjust law) and people who use others in vile, dehumanizing ways—like in killing babies, using them for experiments, or in humans who desire to sodomize others and use people in vile, dehumanizing, degrading ways. All evil use of others is a warped, deformed, satanic worldview of evil people and evil ideologies/religions.

Mormons are not Christians. Christians created the Age of Reason because of the logic and coherence (Wisdom) in the Bible and the Mind of God and Design in Nature. There is no logic or reason in the Book of Mormon which rejects the Bible/God’s Laws, for irrational man-made-up lusts/laws and in making themselves into gods.

re: “Thinking one can judge another Christians heart is putting one in an exalted position that even a forgiven sinner doesn’t warrant.”

You’re right that we cannot know what is in another person’s heart, but, we can judge outward actions as being “wrong” or “right” in comparison to God’s Word.

On the other hand, I agree with you that people claiming that Trump is not a Christian based solely on certain things he has said or done is questionable at best. No one knows Trump’s heart toward God (nor anyone else’s heart for that matter).

We can judge outward actions as being “unchristian” or “un-Christlike”, but we cannot judge what is in a person’s heart and mind in regard to their relationship with God.

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible //Hmmm. The author of my Bible is God.

So for those of us who can't read the original Hebrew, Green, and Aramaic, you don't think we should allow the translators to be paid?

Green = Greek. Not if I actually hit the n at the end or if I hit something else and it auto-corrected

I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt on that one. I use a tablet often enough to know that autocomplete and autocorrect can do that sort of thing even if you type in what you want it to say.

NKJV is a fine version; I wore one out, and you could do a lot worse.

Cautionary words, rightly considered, are always in order.

Your "The author of my Bible is God" tripped my KJV-onlyism alarm. The general claim is that since there is "no copyright" on the KJV it has a superior claim to being God's Word than the new translations. It's a bogus claim, but I will spare the details since it was apparently a false alarm.

I have also worn out an NKJV. I switched to ESV not too long ago (and switched to primarily electronic versions quite a while ago.)

Nope, I wasn’t quoting from one of those modern innovations like the KJV. The quote was from the Geneva (breeches) Bible. Useful when you want to have some fun with a KJOnlyist.

I use the ESV now, as well. Not my favorite version, but it’s the pulpit and pew Bible at church, so I pull out my electronic version. A few taps, and I can be in the King James Version with Strong’s numbers, then look up the word myself if I question the translation.
