A small-town Alabama high school cheerleading coach was arrested on Tuesday on charges that she had a sexual relationship with a male student.
The teacher is Katherine Nelson, reports The Birmingham News.
Nelson, 29, is an English teacher at Brookwood High School in Brookwood, Ala. (pop: 1,828), just east of Tuscaloosa. She also coaches cheerleading and golf, and directs musical theater.
The charge against the married teacher is engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19 (while also a school employee).
Investigators say the sex occurred back during the 2012-2013 school year.
The age of the student at the time of the alleged fling or now is not known.
Sheriff Ron Abernathy issued a statement explaining that the 2016 investigation had commenced based on a tip from the local school district.
Nelson turned herself in at the Tuscaloosa County Jail and has since made bond. At this time the investigation has not shown any evidence to indicate that any other students or teachers are involved in the alleged incident, Abernathys statement, obtained by Birmingham CBS affiliate WIAT-TV, said.

Oh my...! What a miscarriage of justice.
I would urge the defendant to accept a plea bargain, not confident taking this to trial without Johnny Cochran.
I spent a lot of time oogling a teacher that was perhaps slightly better looking than this woman, Mexican, had a nice rack.
Cheerleader coach and taught musical theater. Hmmmmmm, if the boy was a fairy that could explain his “trauma”.
One can only imagine the trauma SHE could inflict on a guy.
(But I bet the healing would be sweet.)
Dude! You have your own keyword.
Also (from the article): "I married Mattie Nelson in October of 2007..."
Mixed up gal?
Lezzie marriage AND boffing boys?
Traumatized, LOL.
Like when I suffered neck trauma from getting smacked in the face by a pair of DDD’s.
I’m in need of a bit of traumatizing
Husband looks like a guy in the wedding pictures.
If thats trauma, Ill take a daily beating.
lol. I have a 17 year old son and I can’t imagine he would be traumatized over such a thing. Perhaps this kid is gay and thought girls were yucky.
No Johnny!!!
Yes, plead out and move along. There are TV shows, Lifetime movies and porno flicks to ca$h in on!
This stuff was common in high school back in the 70's when I was there. People just didn't talk about private matters of adult relationships. Four female teachers and guidance counselors were into the boys. One female gym teacher was into the girls. Two male teachers actually kept an apartment to keep their girls busy. The local police department cops kept an apartment just outside the township line for "girl parties". One male guidance counselor had a Chevy van and was known to rock it while parked with a set of twins. He was asked to quit over the matter and he became an inner city school principal.
"Searching for mysteries without any clues, working on the night moves, night moves"
There is no template with deadlines or start dates on sexual exploration and maturity in young adults. A hundred years ago people had families and jobs at 18.
I can understand it if we were talking 60’s through the 70’s bush, but not with todays power trimmers...
Perhaps she's the "roll" in "Roll Tide"?
Oh my, good thing I have no plans to travel through there anytime soom...lol.
About a month ago here, a 30 year old female teacher was killed when she ran her car into the path of a truck carrying liquid nitrogen. She was on her way to be questioned by the Texas Rangers because of allegations by a male student that they had a sexual relationship. I think there were photos on his phone. Her father was the police Chief in the same town and he announced his retirement during the scandal. It is pretty well accepted here that she committed suicide due to her situation.
Certainly not to the point of inducing "trauma".
Dunno about you, but when I (and my friends) were 19....
If the girl was still breathing, had bathed in the past year, and didn't have a beard like a Confederate General .... we were good. That's a pretty low standard, right there, and for some, the "bathing" part might have been negotiable.
Sad. Lives ruined due to lack of self control. I’m not saying that as though I was the paragon of virtue, morals and diplomacy. I most certainly am not. I am a fully flawed human being. I just can’t get over that these female teachers would work so hard and so long to have a career in education, only to throw it all away for a ‘good feeling’, a feeling as temporary as it is risky. I’ve heard of some young teachers losing control of their teenage lovers, and coming to harm.
This has probably been happening for generations, but with the internet, facts and fiction travel very quickly.
