Entrepreneurship, Wealth Gap Among Issues Leading to Black Voters to Trump
NBC News ^ | Wednesday, March 2, 2016 | Lauren Victoria Burke

As the race for the White House moves past Super Tuesday, we've heard a lot about what Black voters may be thinking on the Democratic side, but what issues are Black Republicans most concerned about in an election that is down to five GOP candidates, but led by Donald Trump?

A closer look at Black conservative voters at this stage in the primary shows that the economy, support for small businesses, and closing the wealth gap are major issues that are driving support for Donald Trump and even leading some to cross party lines to vote for him.

"Nothing is more important to me than minority owned business. Minority owned businesses were the foundation of the Black community in the 1960s," says Carmen Moore Ziglar, a Black Republican in Alabama who spoke with NBCBLK on the eve of Super Tuesday.

"I know a lot of black people who are voting for Donald Trump. There's a lot of people who believe in what he's saying," Moore added.

For Frank Vick, an African American democrat who voted for Barack Obama in 2008, "it's Trump time." The candidate's brash, straight-shooter style and potential to unite the nation has strong appeal.

"I'm from New York City, where Trump is from, and we in New York tell it like it is. And I think we need some more of that in the country," Vick told NBC News' Jacob Rascon at a Trump rally in Virginia this week. "I think he's going to bring both parties together, in co-independence, I think he's going to put the country back to where it needs to be."

Vick also dismissed Mr. Trump's insufficient rebuke of white supremacist David Duke over the weekend.

"When I was small, Donald Trump financed our basketball team to help us stay off the streets..."

I have not seen any poll numbers on this, which leads me to believe that he is pulling more of the black vote than expected.

I am happy to see the Black Community come behind Trump....Trump is for America and that includes the Black Community...

The obuma administration could have done so much for the Black Community and they turned their backs on them...there was so much they could have done in their cities, and helping their children, jobs and respect...

Martin Luther King brought the Black Community into the standing of America and we were working together, and they were feeling like Americans, which they are and have been for a long, long time, and obuma came in and has destroyed all of that work that Martin Luther King did....we lived those years, we seen the heart break of the people, both Black and White, we now have to ‘re build’ all over again, thanks people who voted for obuma twice, you just destroyed a beautiful act of America...

The media has concluded that they can’t keep ignoring Trump’s Black support anymore so this is an initial toe in the water. Remember since the USAToday poll last Labor Day showing Trump getting 20% Black support NO ONE has actually challenged that number. It has popped up a few times more since then so the pollsters stopped asking the question. That way they could keep it hidden, but those who need to know this know it. Travis Smiley has alluded to it this week. There will be more “Smiley’s”.

Thomas Sowell, back when he was an outspoken opponent of the GOPe, said that if the Republicans adopt the platform of the Democrats in order to get minority votes, the country is finished. Now, for a change, we have a candidate who is following this advice and getting minorities on board by means other than pandering.

Donald Trump and also Ted Cruz, no matter how you feel about them, have already done the country great service. They have exposed and laid bare the arrogant, self-entitled mindset of the self-appointed, self-anointed “ruling class” in our government. A “cartel” (per Ted Cruz) disdainful and dismissive to those they “serve” (rule?). The absolute PANIC and vitriol directed at both Trump and Cruz from the “ivory towers” of D.C., the media, academia and entertainment industries… that these interlopers would DARE challenge the “fortress” of the “ruling class”.

The stated preference of many in the GOP “establishment” that Hillary Clinton is preferable to either Trump or Cruz. is naked testimony that brazen corruption, duplicity, outright lies (video caused Benghazi… is just ONE), are A-OK if done by the anointed privileged let-them-eat-cake insider class! Exposed is the despot minded people who live like royalty on the stolen labor of their “subjects”(serfs?)… the working folks… the middle class slowly strangled by ever more burdensome taxes and regulations! They and their media allies seek every device (race, sex, class, religion…whatever) to keep we (former citizens, now subjects) divided and discouraged… lest we rebel! So no one this election season… can claim ignorance that our “betters” now seek to RULE (not govern) and the “consent of the governed” is rapidly becoming a joke!

Both parties have failed to understand that as time has passed, more and more Black people have gotten a larger stake in the economy. Their personal attitudes are changing, even if they still ‘vote Dem’ in public.

Not surprising. They're probably being sick of lied to more than any white man did to them plus the fact he's a man-girl that shoots hoops like a sissy and plays a white man's sport (well statistically anyway. He's betrayed them at every turn.

I believe Trump would pull at least 30% of the black vote in the general vs Hillary and more vs Sanders.

“Black conservative voters at this stage in the primary shows that the economy, support for small businesses, and closing the wealth gap are major issues that are driving support for Donald Trump..........”.......

Those are the blacks that have it figured out and are not the “gibsmedats” with their hands always reaching out for something, anything free. At least these people will work for it.

Hillary is desperate to get the black vote she’s putting out black and white nostalgia pics with her and black people together. I’m surprised she hasn’t taken mock pics of her giving Rosa Parks her seat on the bux or her diving in front of Martin Luther King to take the bullet when he was assassinated.

It’s amazing how many GOPee’s are coming out of the closet.

Just encouraging marriage instead of baby daddy scenarios would help that community, since nearly every negative life outcome is 2-4 times worse when raised by a single mother. And two parents living together is just as bad, because they overwhelmingly split within a few years.

The Democrats have fooled and tricked Blacks as has the GOPe fooled and tricked conservatives. The result is that the Trump campaign has pulled the sheets off the corrupt pols on both sides and now the plantation Dems and Conservatives have woken up.

I’m not so sure about Trump’s policies being good for entrepreneurs, but I do think this article is correct that Trump’s support in the black community is larger than generally recognized.

The black people I know, “immigration, “flooding the labor market” and low wages” are all at or near the top of their political concerns list, and Trump is the one who talks the most about those and who sounds the most serious about tackling them. I personally disagree with some of Trump’s solutions, but OTOH he’s actually talking about tackling the issues, and talking about them as if he hopes to *empower* people so they can get jobs, etc..

Democrats who talk about that sort of stuff, talk about the government *taking care of* people — black entrepreneurs and most middle class black people have figured out what that really means, and they don’t want it.

Where Trump falls majorly short for me is in terms of education. He wants to limit Federal power on that front, which is good, but the real solution is not to hand the power back to the states or cities, but to hand the power back to the parents. A voucher system of some sort is the only thing that has made a real difference in the lives of kids caught in ghetto schools.

Imagine being a kid who actually wants to learn and get a job someday being trapped in a school where half the teacher’s day is spent breaking up fights and dealing with kids who are only there to disrupt the classroom. Liberals are all, “We can’t suspend these kids, they need schooling to succeed in life” — meanwhile, the other kids in the school are being robbed of their education. Nothing I’ve seen Trump propose changes that.

He’s pulling a TON of black votes.
Tavis Smiley is trying to play DNC broker with the black vote because he thinks he can deliver it for Hillary in exchange for something.
At the end of the day, he is a smart man and he knows what his listeners are telling him - that they have left the DNC.
He knows which way the wind is blowing and he is jumping on on that train.

That is exactly why the RNC keeps pumping out that KKK video. They are desperately trying to peel off his black support.
